I played FF14 back in 2014. I liked it alot, really like the world and theme. I got pretty addicted... I try to stick with games that end at some point now...
My favorite genre is SRPGs like Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Disagea (have only played D5). I tried to pick up Xenoblade about a year ago but no one sells it new, and it goes for over 100 dollars online or if GS has it they want that much.
I loved FFXV as a game, it scratched my hardcore JRPG itch a bit, but now I want to play a more traditional one... I think that is why FFXV is sitting around 84 on meta instead of more around 90, many reviewers loved the older style of FF games, so it was hard for them to give it a 9 or 10 because not traditional enough. My expectations were pretty low (I was not digging the more realistic aesthetic, which I ended up loving the art direction, and the demo did not do much for me) so I ended up being blown away. Had I been overhyped I would have been focusing on what it does not do, rather than what it does. FFXV is the best FF in multiple categories, but it is definitly the weakest in things like character progression and flexibility. Those weakness are not bad IMO and they would not have been held against it if it did not have FF in the name. But people expect that, so it clouded their personal reception of the game.
