I'm incredibly hyped! I'm expecting it to get a 76 meta average. Lots of irrelevant talk about development times, gender of main characters, etc. Few arbitrary things to really bring down the score.

They already did that with FFXIII and it got to 83.

Which came out in 2010, and Metacritic scores have trended downward in the nearly seven years since.  People used to freak out if a game scored below 90.  Now 80 is the threshold.

Anyway, I just finished FFXV.  I'd personally give it a 6.5 -- maybe a 7 if I'm in a good mood and decide to ignore Chapter 13 -- and still think the Metacritic average will be slightly on the south side of 80

7.5 for me. Ffxv share the same fate with mgsv: hindered by simultaneous game and engine development. As a result, the game feels more like a showcase of the engine rather than a truly great rpg.

Conclusion: Performance and gameplay are great, but the story is rather shallow. Music is top notch as always, but sound effect could be better. And this might be the first buggy FF i've ever played.

side note: you get a new logo after the ending and imo it's the most beautiful logo of the series

MGSV's story doesn't really come together in the end, but as a gameplay/story experience, it's considerably better than Final Fantasy XV, where major events happen off-camera. And The Phantom Pain's open world isn't nearly as bland as FFXV's.

Imagine if in season seven of Game of Thrones, we don't see the Lannisters at all, and then in episode four Sam is told in a letter that white walkers have destroyed King's Landing and everyone's dead, Cersei and Jaime included. That is FFXV's storytelling, by and large.

Since we are talking about the game, I haven't got past chapter 6 yet. But I have to say that the open world is filled with interesting activities. I have come across a lot of hard side dungeons, resorts, and maybe some military bases that I haven't checked. The hunt quests are usually challenging. Also some mini stuff like fishing spots and racing field. Not to mention that the art direction is lovely and unique. MGSV open world bales in comparison when it comes to variety.

So far The story focus has been on the characters themselves and not the big events. Mostly about how those events affect the characters and how the characters feel about what is happening in the world. The story is being told mostly through the interaction between the characters, which can happen at any time even during the madness of combat. I personally love that approach because it manages to keep you interested throughout the journey.

I´m thinking it´ll be like, around 83 MC average.

Reading the impressions thread on GAF , a lot of people are saying the sidequests are repetitive.I´m not surprised, developers in general seem to love, or seem to be incapable of crafting sidequests that are more than MMO like fetch quests....Witcher 3 spoiled me when it comes to sidequests.

not sure about metacritic but if you're looking at square-enix stock prices recently it's either that ffxv will roally suck and nobody will buy it or it'll be superawsome that it fly off the shelves because either investors are cashing in and leaving the ship before it goes down or they purposely shorting it to rebuy cheap before it takes off. anyway, i'm preloading right now so i will find out soon enough.

Developers aren't incapable, it's just not what they're paid for. The publisher wants a big game with lots of content in no time and without money. It's not hard to make more complex and interesting sidequests but since it's not the focus those won't happen. The publisher simply won't spend money on "side things".

They do, but they call it DLC, and sell it separatedly.

And why wouldn't they. If they make their developers work extra they need extra money for it.
