That is a VERY good price point.

It's not showing up for me. -_-
Feels like a Wii/Xbox 360/PS3 situation coming.
The Pro is 399 will probably be 350 next holiday
The Switch is 250
The next Xbox will probably be 499 next holiday.
So in this scenerio the Pro is the 360, the Scorpio is the PS3 and the Switch is the... Wii

Feels like a WiiU/Xbox 360/PS3 situation coming.
The PS4 Slim is available for less than 250 until March and has a great game catalog with many game deals
The Xbox One is available for less than 200 until March and has a great game catalog with many game deals
The Switch is 250, late to the party and many multiplatform games run/look worse on it than on the cheaper consoles
So in this scenerio the PS4 Slim is the 360, the Xbox One is the PS3 and the Switch is the... Wii U
Hopefully it really is 250 USDs, cuz that would be one hell of a price. It could do well at that price.

Where? It released March 27th in the US. The price drop took effect august 12th. That was an $80 price drop in less than 5 months. That isn't even close to a majority of its lifespan. |
I think this something we need to consider when predicting the success of the Switch. $249 was seen as a bad price for the 3DS by the mainstream consumer. So much so that Nintendo completely bypassed the $199 price point and priced it at $169. It's not impossible that they react the same way to the Switch. Probable when they learn its about half the power of a XBO, costs the same, has less than 100GB for storage, and many 3rd parties are taking a wait and see approach.
Personally, $199 with a game would have been the best price. Would be more of an impulse buy. My guess is we're going to be looking at $299 for a game bundle. The same price for a 500GB PS4 or XBO bundle. And my guess is that'll be $249 some time next year.
So no real extra power in the dock (outside of being able to run at full power) is all but confirmed too.
I think it's the best of a bad situation, so good.
To put it into perspective when you consider a New 3DS XL standalone is £179 + another £7 for a charging adaptor it makes it a great price for new hardware and only £13 more than if you were going for the 3DS XL.
Or to compare it to the Wii U since it's a hybrid Handheld/console Wii U is £229 with Mario kart 8 which is £35 to buy seperate so the Switch is effectively the same price as what buying a Wii U currently is.

You're not for talking for a console that is either only a home console or handheld console, it's both... You pay 250$ for two gaming ways ( switch is more than two though, so I mean the major ones ! ) Okay , switch seems more like a handheld console but you can still use it to play on tv by attaching it to a dock , so it's a home console too...
Personally, I agree with Nintendo's notion, that is a home console first and foremost despite the hardware nature! For me it's a home console, with a commodity that allows you to curry out and continue playing what you were playing on your tv, lying on the sofa...
250$ is for a hybrid console not just handheld console, that price is only problematic for the portion of 3ds audience which won't be interested in playing on tv too, that's why I want Nintendo to make a separate 3DS scuccessor... ( which of course would get the same catrigdes/games with switch )!
Unless, switch manufacturing cost allows Nintendo to sell the handheld device standalone for 199$, albeit there would still be a problem, portability, even though a 2DS like solution could be followed...

Which country are you talking about? Because I'm pretty sure that was the launch price that was reduced just a few months after the release due to bad sales. |
My bad, I got that mixed up. I was convinced the XL was 250$ but it's not.
