You're actually trying to convince yourself and others that with the Switch, you're actually getting two devices for the price of one. No, it's one device. You can try to look at it as a "best of both worlds" scenario, but it can also be seen as a "worst of both worlds" scenario. The specs are too crappy and the support too questionable for serious home gaming. On the other hand, you have to wonder about the handheld side of things as well. It's not really as handy and pocketable as traditional handhelds have been, and battery life is going to be really questionable. A jack of all trades, master of none? Is that going to fly? We'll see. |
Well, if we look at it just from a handheld perspective, it offers a HUGE jump compared to the New 3DS. And like Miyamotoo said, that one is still selling pretty good at a price of $199.
As for the pocketability of it... I think tablets and phablets have been showing for the last couple of years that the small form factor is highly overrated.

I'd rather a bundle with a pack-in game that's brand new, but this is pretty good.
I guess the sweetspot price of $199 ain't happening, which I'm not sure will go over well with the handheld market. They didn't like $249 for the 3DS afterall.

Well if this prices are true, then in mainland Europe price will be 249 euros and in US $249. |
Then it's an instant buy for me

Gotta take a few things into account.
Switch in 2017 is far more powerful in comparison to 3DS in 2011 so the hardware has more bang for your buck at that price.
3DS initially was confused as a DS with 3D instead of a brand new device.
3DS had a terrible post-launch software drought. Nintendogs+Cats & Ocarina of Time 3D were the only big 1st party titles in the first 6 months.
I agree that price was an issue, but it wouldnt have been nearly as big of an issue if 3DS had powerful hardware for that price, a less confusing name/concept and a strong lineup of games.

I think the sweetspot is $249.99, I mean, the device is more complex than a 3ds. $199 would be great too but I would consider that a steal.

I never said price was the only issue for the 3DS, just that handheld players might not like that pricepoint as shown before.

I mean more from a general standpoint, without taking the value of the product into consideration, since we don't yet know exactly how good or not the Switch is gonna be. It's definitely a better concept than the 3DS, but still people have not shown to be willing to pay more than $200 for a handheld. That could change of course, but only time will tell!
