Forums - Nintendo - Laura Kate Dale: Xenoblade X port is not developed by Monolith, working on something new ground up, 2018 earliest

Please tell us what happened with the cloaked figure. Anyhoo glad more people get to play this amazing game. Also I would love to see Monolith make open world based on UE4 or something. Tho not sure they will do a open world game next time as they said they wanted to do something completely opposite of XCX.

Well the port is a smart idea for creating exposure for the series because not only is it the dedicate JRPG in the first party line up but lets say the NS really takes off and one of the early games available is XCX more people are likely to pick it up and it potentially gives the next game in the series to have a bigger following.

I really can't wait to see what Monolith Soft have under their sleeves for their next game.

I am not too keen on a Xenoblade Chronicles X port to begin with. I would like to support the franchise but given I already put hundreds of hours into the original version, unless they have something quite impressive to distinguish it I know I won't be buying it and I am not sure how many other Xenoblade diehards would give it a shot either if they already have the original.

I doubt they are going to do anything in regards to the story or ending, so at best we might see improvement on technical issues that plagued the original like pop ups, bad font size and maybe clean up issues where the mission radar is impossible to understand where the objective is located.

I personally think that the Wii U ports, XCX included, will be aimed for people that missed the Wii U, especially the non Nintendo fans.I think thats the primary target audience for the Switch on the first year.Of course there will be new games for us fans, like the 3D Mario, Zelda, and some more, but thiose ports are to make the first year extremely atractive to players outside of the realm that Nintendo already has a good hold of.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

I'd be shocked if they got the XCX successor out before holiday 2019 at the earliest.

At this rate we're going to have to wait for the successor to Switch to get Switch games.

Maybe you will want to wait January Switch event before saying that.

My guess is that Nintendo moved future DLC for XCX to the switch for some ultimate edition. I always found it funny that there was no DLC and that missing piece of NLA was giveaway for it.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Monolith Soft is a strange studio. Nintendo doesn't benefit at all from them spending so much money on obscure games like Xenoblade Chronicles.

Xenoblade Chronicles is my favorite Wii game, but Xenoblade Chronicles X is my least favorite Wii U game, so not sure if I want to see another Xenoblade game... The combat system needs to change at least. It was good in Xenoblade Chronicles because of the Monado and having to re-position yourself often with Shulk's abilities, but in X it just bored me to death.

I take the Xenoblade Chronicles frnachise as both a reward and opportunity. When Nintendo acquired Monolith Soft from Namco Bandai, based on all accounts it sounded like a throw in. However Monolith Soft has been front and center assisting Nintendo development for the last two console and handheld generations. They had their hands in the most recent console Legend of Zelda games, Splatoon, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and Smash Bros. Brawl. The franchise itself also offers to Nintendo a brand they can put out there to the hardcore RPG crowd , which isn't as large of a market as it once was but is still worth pursuing. While Fire Emblem has shown to be an even better draw, the Xenoblade franchise has potential and with its two games has shown versatility and a solid fanbase.

I do agree about XCX, although I loved it, I don't see how a straight port will grow the brand, unless they are adding in new content. It was quite flawed and in parts feels unfinished (not even talking about the story) so unless Monolith Soft themselves are redoing it or planning to add new content, I don't see how XCX on Switch is a good idea when you are putting it against Skyrim of all open world RPG games within the first year to be compared to.

If it releases I hope it does well but jeez does it feel like a gamble and I hope it doesn't work against the franchise. Because direct sequel to XCX or the original Xenoblade in tone or whatever, I want another new game in the franchise.

You didn't see the point in positioning your character when you can target limbs and chain buffs and debuffs? How much of the game have you played?

*edit* Beyond that, think about the whole design philosophy of the game. A (for the most part) completely seemless open world. It only makes sense that you wouldn't cut to a battle screen. They wanted to build the game entirely as if you were actually on the planet (within reason). That's also the point of it not being turn based, ect. In all actuallity X makes the most sense in having  this battle system.
