I'm making the assumption the scorpio will be a good bit more powerful and also more expensive.  if the above turns out to be true then the following statement applies. 

So I think having the scorpio in the next tier in terms of power and price is good.  why?  

Well people now have 3 power brackets. 

1. Ps4/xb1

2. Pro

3. Scorpio 

It means gamers now have more choice. The 3 tiers are not directly competing.  You want the most affordable?? ps4/xb1 base models are very cheap.  you want more power at an affordable price?  the Pro got you covered. you want even more power?  then we have the scorpio for you.  

Basically I think it's best not to have the Pro and scorpio directly competing. What if the consumer was deciding between a gaming pc and a console.  but the Pro isn't powerful enough.  well there's a chance the scorpio will be and he'll go for that n

I think the only loser in this will be pc.  You're going to have console upgrades every 3/4 years and the only thing not covered will be the really high end market that is very expensive.  I think because of this the future for consoles is very positive. 

You make it look like ps4 exclusives like horizon,days gone,dreams, yakuza6 etc will be on xbox scorpio.


Yes people have a choice for the more powerful scorpio, but what choice in games do you have for the system?

As long as Gears, Halo and Forza are around, MS do not have anything else.

OP : I like your point. Overall I think mid-gen upgrades will be a good thing for the console industry, and variety in the offering as always been good for the consumer. That said, I would like the consoles to differentiate themselves not only through power.

Well for me its a good thing because of backwards comp. I really started to want an Xbox One and now its a better deal, not just so I can play my old games (mass effect, the witcher 2, blue dragon, lost oddesey, fable, etc) again in better framerates and on a working console (my x360 died sadly)

But I can also use the console to buy all my third-party Ubisoft and Ea purchases (which I normally get on pc) and really start using my 4k television.

To me the PS4 Pro seems like the really good choice for people who buy their first console, since I think the PS4 has more good exclusives

but the Xbox Scorpio seems like the ideal companion for people who already own a PS4 or as the main console for people who just want the best experience on 4k Televisions.

Either way I am glad that the scorpio doesn't release this year since microsoft will have a year to really get that extra performance and learn from the mistakes sony will make with the pro, and not make them.

Also the wait from Scorpio to PS5 will be small, and for me thats a bonus since I don't mind having a new console every 2-3 years and I wouldn't mind switching between xbox and ps in between since I do really appreciate both companies.

It will also be funny because I havn't upgraded my pc (i7 2600k / 16GB ram/780GTX) for a while and altough the ps4 pro isn't as powerfull I am quite sure the scorpio might beat it in graphical performance :D

well honestly. People wont look it that way..... Console wars incoming.     

Like everything on the internet, the hatefull/jelous or negative voices are generally seen more and heard louder then the silent massess and the positive feedbackt, I personally enjoy gaming from almost all categories and companies and I know many agree and altough some will use any excuse to hate one way or the other I am also quite content to see xbox one owners buying a ps4 pro and playing both consoles and ps4 owners buying the scorpio and playing both consoles.

In many ways having 2 main competitors to please the massess for home consoles this mid-life cycles will actually give a good oppertunity for people to enjoy both offerings and experiences. And with the Nintendo Switch there is even a unique experience people can also obt to choose instead, seems like a great time to be a gamer hardware wise! especially after the tedious slow last generation that did overstay its welcome (for me anyway)

Plenty of people don't care about exclusives. Im in a minority but I'm thinking of getting a Pro, play it for exclusives and then use a Scorpio for third party titles when it comes out.

Nope. Choice is bad and will destroy the console industry. Just like it destroyed PC gaming.

People just get confused if they have to make more than one choice every 7 years.
