Little did they know all Phil did in the meantime was dreaming about having Mario on his console

Well voodoo vince is one of his favourite games (cause he played it with his child(ren) and atleast it gets a remaster and release early next year:

Well, any console maker would love to have Nintendo IP on their systems. But I would also be happy to have Halo and Uncharted on Nintendo systems. It just wont happen.

I think both will happen within 5-6 years. Watch and see.

Halo on Switch and Mario on XBox. And I think personally it's a good thing. Will be good for Rareware too.

I think MS is already making overtures to Nintendo as we speak, and both companies will develop a nice working relationship because of Minecraft, which is going to be one of the top (if not the top) third party games on the Switch.

Both should understand if there is an "enemey", it's actually Sony. Nintendo/MS fighting over the scraps from Sony's table benefits no one but Sony who's basically taken over the entire console industry for the last 20 years. Even with the Wii, and virtually every possible thing going right for Nintendo, and PS3 with every thing going wrong for Sony early on, the Wii barely outsold the PS3 in the end, that shows you how difficult it is to beat Playstation, and Nintendo is unlikely to ever have a controller miracle/fad like the Wiimote ever again.

Doubt it would happen, unless Nintendo and Microsoft were forced into an alliance.

Getting your ass kicked by Sony for 16/20 years and being locked out of the traditional home console market I'd say is plenty of reasons to rethink things.

The way the industry is totally favors Playstation and Sony would love to keep the status quo. MS and Nintendo should realize this and stop fighting amongst each other while in general being bullied around by Sony.

Unless Sony makes another really dumb mistake like a $800 Playstation 5 (and even then Nintendo would need a miracle controller to capitalize), MS/Nintendo will always be licking Sony's boots. It's better for the two of them to work together. In the end it's better for the gamers too IMO, having some Nintendo IP on XBox and some MS IP on Switch would be good for the consumer in the end and mutually beneficial to both platforms.

I dont think so.First because that kind of a deal will obviously have the one that will benefit more, the one that will "own" the system those games will be launched on and remember as the "owner".And that ultimately will affect the brand.I dont think Nintendo nor MS wants to be the second guy here.

Second reason is that MS is having its own success. It seems that XOne is having a great momentum now, and it was already selling well. And it already has plans for the future, with Play Anywhere and Scorpio. The same can be said to Nintendo, with the whole Theme park/Movies/mobile initiatives, also with the Switch comming. If a deal is to be made, its not going to happen in the next 4 years. And if that happens, it will take an extra 2 or 3 years for us to see any kind of result out of that.So that wont happen soon at all, if it happens at all.

Third reason is that it is simply is more profitable to be a full owner(no partnership) of the platform or the business you are in, and thats especially true for Nintendo, because they can do whatever they want, and seeing how they do many things that are out of the box and outright different, while MS is more conservative(at least in my perspective). And time proved time and time again that this quirkiness is very profitable for Nintendo(Splatoon, Animal Crossing, Wii, DS,etc, were all born from this different way to see the industry, or if you prefer, lack of fear of doing something different). There is also the argument that you satnd to profit wayyyyyy more ripping all the profit of a platform for yourself than to split that with partners, even if you have to endure the occasional failure like the Wii U, if that means you have the chance to have another success as the Wii.Plus I see Nintendo as a very proud company.I think they prefer to go third party than to give in and make a joint partnership on a platform.

Plus its not like they wont have something to fall back to if the Switch fails(and fails here is very subjective). They will have many sources of income from all the initiatives they are doing, plus the merchandising and stuff. And since I personally think that the Switch will be successful, I dont see it happening.Like, never happening.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Poor Phil. These interview fragments always make him sound so simple. Next headlines:
"I feel there is a lot of artistic value in video games."
"I want an Xbox in every home."
"I would love to eat a pepperoni pizza right now."

Mario on Xbox almost became a reality when Microsoft first proposed a buyout of Nintendo. But when Microsoft made known that Nintendo was to cease hardware production, Nintendo back out of the potential deal. Otherwise, we would have seen a Mario game on the Xbox. Look on the bright side. Competition is good for the industry.

just a heads up, the litigation and law in Japan for a foreign company to take over one of their own large companies is insanely complicated and has to be approved by the court.

There's like zero chance the Japanese government would have let something like that occur. There are extremely few number of examples of foreign companies asborbing/buying large Japanese companies in the last few decades

interesting comments but nothing surprising. Mario games sell great, and in general Nintendo's 1st party software sells excellent. Naturally they'd want big N games on the Xbox if it were possible. Not that it is as that would kill Nintendo's console at the time.

Although the Banjo Kazooie comment had me curious, he makes it sound like he is offering for Banjo to be in Smash. I find it hard to believe Nintendo wouldn't accept that offer

I don't think MS will put Halo on Switch or that Nintendo will put Mario on Xbox.
Despite Switch being a more hybrid device, it's still being sold as a home console. And that spells competition.

We might see, at most, Banjo or Master Chief appearing on Smash (will the amiibo profits going mostly for MS) or something like that.
But putting major franchises on the competitor's consoles is just too much.

Let me try and dream about this for a bit longer.
We could also see something special: Nintendo puts the 4 biggest Mario games on Xbox Live and MS puts Halo 1 to 4 in Nintendo's VC.
This is really a dream, but i can't see it being much better than this - and i'm already being unrealistic.

The deal would benefit Nintendo more IMO, but I think it would be mutually beneficial.

MS does have some decent momentum with the X1 right now, but I think it's mainly because people were waiting for the PS4 Slim and Pro models this fall. And MS has made little/no headway in Europe or Japan after 15 years.

Going third party full stop would be more of a blow to Nintendo's independence. In a relationship they get something from MS, get to continue making Switch hardware, and maintain full independence.

They're just bringing more visibility and players to their IP, and Switch and XBox Scorpio are different enough for people to want both. Making a few games for XBox/Windows doesn't mean no more Switch, any more than Nintendo games on iPhone/Android mean no more Nintendo hardware, I think you're overstating that.

I think Nintendo should take MS up on that offer of Banjo-Kazooie in Smash right now and put them into the Switch version. That would be great. I'd love Killer Instinct on the Switch too.

Why would Nintendo stop making consoles to make an exclusive game for the Xbox ? If they ever go third party, they will release their games on every toaster on the planet just like Sega did.
