Forums - Nintendo - If Zelda:BotW delay is going to happen, Wii U version will be cancelled.

It'll most likely get a limited print run like the GameCube version of Twilight Princess, but cancelled? No.

The wii u was always good enough for Nintendo games but where it goes outside of its comfort zone requiring realistic physics engines,  real world textures, lighting and weather etc it fails horribly. Cartoon graphics fine. Even Mario 64 on the N64 is still an attractive game for me.

But even fans have a limit on the amount of abuse they will take. I was a Nintendo fan since 1994, but if Zelda is made Switch exclusive, I will refuse to buy it or Switch on principal. Wii U gamers comprise the loyalist core of Nintendo's dwindling fanbase, pissing them off is not a good idea.

I feel the same, if they don't launch Zelda BotW on Wii U I'm done with them.

But you and I, and the rest of member of this site and others, are the minority and we have top accept that we don't represent the whole gaming market. Cancelling the Wii U version of BotW may mean them losing a few hundred consumers (and it remains to be seen how many of them would end up buying the new console at a later date), but if that means selling several thousand units more of Switch to the general users, they may find that it's worth it.

I don't know. I'm not sure how much of the Wii U owners would drop out if Nintendo instead releases it as a Switch exclusive. I guess I could only put myself as an example as I've been a supporter of Nintendo since I started gaming on the SNES (along with the Genesis). I would still support them if they do cancel the Wii U version (though I doubt it would happen) as I can see it from both sides. Business wise it's hard not to justify it since it can boost Switch sales. Or maybe I'm just a little more tolerant than others since gaming isn't the majority of my life so I can't play as much as I used to so investing my time and money is more important. Plus, Nintendo is more than just Zelda for me. There's Mario, Smash, Splatoon, Xenoblade, Metroid, Fire Emblem, etc. idk maybe I'm the minority of the minority. Then again, can we really determine that 13 million is the current hardcore Nintendo fans? What about the 3DS? What about the lack of awareness and marketing of the Wii U? There are people out there who still don't know what it is. i guess it depends ultimately. I get your guys' feelings but I don't know if I would even go that far because I've ultimately enjoyed my Wii U despite getting it late and the possibility of no mainline Zelda (though, again, I doubt it).

They have the Wii U version done already and they can earn money from it (Wii U has performed badly when it comes to sales but Nintendo has earned money with it due to first party game sales). So no, they're not cancelling it imo (besides that would make them lose millions of customers who would stop trusting the brand forever).

WiiU and Switch will have similar power, so there is no point in cancelling. They probably will be able to sell the game twice for their loyal fans.

Forcing them to do something just doesn't make much sense to me. It'd only piss off the Wii U fanbase, and well, I don't really see it happening. They didn't force people to do the same with Twilight Princess.

It doesn't make sense to you, but for Nintendo it could if that means higher Switch sales in the first year, because they need to make the Switch a success.

Sometimes we forget, or not pay attention, that we're talking about business, and sometimes what makes sense from a business perspective is the opposite of what we, gamers, want.

I dunno, releasing it only on a new console from a new start, while disregarding the still sizable base of the Wii U doesn't make much sense from a business sense too. Even if they're trying trying to boost the sales of the NS version, ignoring the potential sales from the Wii U version and pissing off that base doesn't sound like a smart move, and since Zelda U isn't doing anything that is only possible on new hardward, nor is a major leap in specs, there isn't much sense to cancel the Wii U version.

And seeing how it would piss off you and curl, I imagine there are more people who would be upset, and Ninten would not want to upset anyone. Nintendo did a multi-release with the GC and Wii with TP, and the GC was also a disappointing console. I don't see why they can't do the same here.

I preordered the game 3 days ago. They know now that that I, the Zelda master, am waiting for it. If they dare to cancel it, fear is what they will meet.

Anyway, Laura Dale has leaked a summer release, so July, August or Sep it is.

I'm not trying to defend the move, I'm just saying that, given the right circumstances, it could make sense for Nintendo to make such a dicky move.

Also, that something like this would piss off many people is secondary because despite what they're saying now, most of them will end up buying the console anyways.

They're really trying to compete with Square Enix for that Guinness world record. I wouldn't be shocked if the game is delayed until Holidays 2017.

Nah, the Wii U version will still release, but the game isn't getting delayed, it'll still come out next year.
