Yeah, I wouldn't expect Pokemon Stars to come out till several months after launch too. |
I wouldn't call that line up great. It seems okay at best? I'm hoping there's more to that 'more'... >_>;

"Downplay"? Seriously? Detach your ego from a console that hasn't even released. Is it not possible to discuss the launch of a video-game system from a critical perspective? Christ. And, yes, I'm sure you're buying everything but I'm not talking about you, I'm talking about the people who skipped the Wii U and are outside Nintendo's current ecosystem, hence my use of the term "non-faithful". |
Yes downplay. Detach your anti-Nintendo bias from your ego once, do us all a favour.
Mainline Pokémon, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a 3D Mario platformer, Mario RPG: The Invasion of the Rabbids and Pikmin 4 in the first year of any console would be great - never mind a Nintendo console. Sprinkle a couple of remasters on top of that like Splatoon and Mario Kart and you have a very strong line-up of games that cater to pretty much everyone. Namely an action adventure game, some RPGs, a real time strategy game, a 3D platformer, an online third person shooter and a racer.
For the people who are outside Nintendo's current ecosystem Mario Kart and Splatoon will be brand new titles, something which you seem to ignore. Just because they didn't buy a Wii U doesn't mean they're not interested in those games. There are many 3DS owners who never bought a Wii U for instance (sales for Super Mario 3D Land are about twice as high as the sales of Super Mario 3D World).
The Wii U had a terrible first year in comparison: Nintendoland (not nearly as succesful as Wii Sports was), New Super Mario Bros. U (it looks just like the Wii version, but in HD), Wii Fit U (the Wii demographic had already moved on, unbeknownst to Nintendo),, The Wonderful 101 (obscure niche game), The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (a remaster of a GC game), Game & Wario (shovelware), and Pikmin 3. I'm not counting Super Mario 3D World as that would be the beginning of the second year for the Wii U.
The only games I "bought" from that list are The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (never played the original) and Pikmin 3 (I got it for free during the Mario Kart 8 deal). That's quite telling, don't you think? Even a hardcore Nintendofan like me could only find two Nintendo games to buy during the Wii U's first year... I also bought Rayman Legends and Batman: Arkham City, but I'm strictly talking about Nintendo's support here. The Switch will have third party support of its own at launch, no doubt about that.
Why would the people outside of Nintendo's current ecosystem only care about Zelda and not the other games? On what is that based? Your bias that only Zelda could appeal to non-Nintendo fans I assume. I'm 100% convinved that there are more Mario and Pokémon fans who don't own a Wii U than Zelda fans who don't own a Wii U. Mario and Pokémon simply have a much broader appeal. I wouldn't be surprised if Splatoon also became a bigger franchise than Zelda this generation.

You know, the whole "you disagree with me so I'm going to try to assassinate your character" thing is so freaking childish. Can't you just discuss the topic without going down that route simply because you disagree with me? Is it really that hard to act mature over a difference of opinion? I don't even care that much, I'm totally fine with being wrong. You know, people don't have to do handstands and cheer for your favorite company, right? It's not even like I said anything bad, it's just you overreacting over an electronic device.
On topic, assuming you're done pouting over video-games, I'm looking at games that were already on the Wii U, and we know how that turned out. They had their chance to sell a system. Splatoon, Mario, and Pikmin aren't going to bring in a large number of new users. Pokemon might but I'm really not sure how to read it. It's going to be on a system with a massive existing userbase already. I'm kind of interested in seeing what kind of sales spike it provides.
As for Zelda, I think it has a lot more new consumers looking at the Switch than all the Mario games combined. It's different than the usual suspects that people know will be on a Nintendo system and thus feels more special. That's my perspective, anyway, as someone who hasn't owned a Nintendo system since the SNES.

I get that you're making a joke, but the big deal isn't these series coming to Switch, it's how early in its life they are releasing. For comparison, here is Wii U
3D Mario-1 year after launch
Mario Kart-1.5 years after launch
Smash Bros-2 years after launch
Splatoon-2.5 years after launch
Pokemon-no mainline title
Zelda-over 4 years after launch
The big titles were too few and far in between on Wii U to gain & maintain any strong momentum.
Switch getting an entry of all those big franchises in the first year should allow it to sell very strong right out of the gate.

Um what? You do realize how abysmal all launch lineups have been for over a decade now right? We're lucky if any new system comes out with one decent new title. I can't remember the last system to deliver 3 great new exclusive titles on launch. The original Xbox is the most recent one that comes to mind with Halo, Project Gotham Racing, and Dead or Alive 3 all great new launch titles. New Mario, new Pikmin, and new Pokemon at launch would be a major win for Switch. Better than anyone could have hoped for really. Not that I really believe this guy anyways cause of the Mario Rabbids game and Zelda. |
Wait. I thought the whole point of the March release was because they wanted to have enough games ready in time for a great launch? So, now you're saying that we shouldn't expect a great launch when even Nintendo hypes it up?

I dont get how someone can say Mario+Splatoon+Mario Kart+Zelda+Smash Bros+Pokemon+Pikmin+Retro Studios Project+a new IP isnt a great first year lineup.
