Does it matter?? If the game is anything to go by Sun and Moon's anime is aimed at the Yokai Watch crowd. Whilst I haven't seen the XY anime it sounds like S&M may be quite different.

Dammit, you're actually right! They are trying to catter the YW crowd!

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Definitely sounds different to what we've got previously in any Pokemon Anime... any OFFICIAL Pokemon Anime anyway.

Looks like it's a completely new studio making it tbh. The overall art style has changed

Saw the first 2 episodes, pleasantly surprised by it. I'm enjoying the focus on humor and the animation is much more fluid than before. Z-Moves look freaking beast too. Wasn't a fan of the art style at first, but it's already growing on me.

I agree that Ash's appearance has been changed majorly and I'd preferred that they'd kept the XYZ style. However, the art style has given them room for more fluid motions. It makes all characters look more active and alive. There has been two battles in the series so far (albeit, very short) and they have been visually great. If all battles continues the way these past ones has, I will enjoy the series. XYZ was amazing but the budget was mostly only on the Greninja fights. I have... some amount of hope for the series :P

I don't know what everyone is seeing tbh.

The art style is more generically liek modern japanese anime and ash looks suitably young but it still looks great and the combat animation quality looks great.

The same directors and writers on board throughout the series, including XY/Z, are working on the new series. It's been confirmed for a while.

heres another thing that people here can think about when it comes to the Sun and Moon anime.

I'm a fan of the series for a long time and I enjoyed the first two episodes of S&M. I don't know, maybe it's because I came in with an open mind :P. Ash is still a kid (he's 10 for petes sake so what do you expect) but has shown similar competence to that of XY Ash. Think of S&M Ash as of that of the Ash from older series who gets in funny situations (the OG series really showed his goofy side) while being energetic and competent from XY/Z. It's a different change of pace though still Pokemon. Bringing back the fun vibe that older series had. Plus it's Alola, based off Hawaii. It's a place of being laid back and just having a good time.

Are we going to keep calling it S&M?  ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Yokai watch. It stepped almost toe to toe with Pokemon and I guess the anime was pretty popular over there as well. So maybe they're trying to try a different style that fits the atmosphere of the game. I don't mind it though. I don't think Pokemon needs top quality animation to get its point across. It's stylistic and I like it. Sorta looks like some early Ghibli/pre Ghibli works.
