So Sony only shipped 60k on Japan? And people keep saying that only Nintendo underships....

To be honest, I kind of understand the hesitation. For a while, the original PS4 wasn't lighting things on fire after it's debut in Japan. They don't want to wait until after the holidays to ship the goods though.

Well, it makes sense.Still, for a console that is selling 30k+ on a weekly basis on Japan, they could have at least shipped 100k and have at the worst case scenario finished it within 2 or 3 weeks.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

People need to stop comparing 60 dollar toy to a console that can actually play new games....one that you can put games into to.
Hell a better comparison would be the fact that 30 games for 60 couldn't outsell Persona 5 PS4 numbers. You know...2 60 dollar things. People need to stop acting like it's a damn console lol

Think about who it is that would buy a ps4 at this stage. Obviously, people who care about the price, otherwise they would've gotten one already. That is why i don't think its particular popular with new adopters. These are people who probably don't care very much about specs. The audience that cares about specs are the early adopters and hardcore gamers.

Hmmmmm... no.  Let me reiterate.  The original PS4 launched at $400 with a 500 GB HDD.  The PS4 Pro is priced at $400 with a 1 TB HDD and upgraded hardware.  Compare that with the Slim which retails for $300 which is pretty much like the original PS4.  The PS4 (all SKUs) are still selling pretty well three years into this generation.  By these fact, it is worth it.  Now, I'm not going to dictate anyone's buying habits because that's all over the map.  I'm not going to cherry-pick to justify myself.

People's buying habits are a corner stone of marketing. To sell something you have to know who you are selling it to. It is literally, the whole point of different SKU's.

Exactly. There are a variety of buying habits to consider. But I'm not going to cherry-pick certain buying habits in an attempt to prove a point such as what you are doing. This is the context of the issue.

Exactly... yet you're going to ignore them for the sake of?

I am doing what a marketeer does. Wich btw, i'm qualified for. If you really understand that differen't SKU's are aimed at different targets of customers in the market. Please explain to me who would at this stage buy a Pro, and why havent they bought a PS4 in the last few years. This is not rocket science. It's simple logic. Also, i'm not interested in a singular case. Marketing isn't a precise science, its a statistical one in it's aproach.

When determining a target audience you have to analyse their habits and their caracteristics. There are obviously small pockets of many different habits, but it's completely obvious at whom the Pro is targeted at because Sony themselves said so: 4k TV owners and gamers who care about performance. By definition this target cares more about those characteristics than the price. If one is not part of that group, they are beeing targeted by the regular model. This is obvious. I don't know why you want to ignore it or call it cherry picking.

I actually think there is some truth to this, a lot of Gaf users from Japan are saying the Pro is very difficult to find.

And here we are the first media outlet wondering why the second week of PS4 Pro was so much lower, maybe because the thing is completley sold out in japan?

Or maybe not so much interest.
