He will still rob the poor and disabled and cut benefits.

Lets wait and see. Democrats tax/rob the poor, the penalty fees for not having health insurance is going to impact people already struggling financially.

I don't think Obamacare is going away completely, but it should become less of disaster that's being exploited.

Both parties rob the poor. It's very obvious that, while they are generally considered by most to be bitter enemies, they are actually pretty amicable towards each other, as they do whatever they can to ensure that a third party is unable to succeed.

Wow, that's a pretty odd thing for them to complain about. I didn't bother watching the video or anything so maybe I'm missing some context?

I didn't watch the video either but I assume the disagreement is that it's a Constitutional requirement that a sitting President take a salary.

"The President shall, at stated Times, receive for his Services, a Compensation, which shall neither be encreased nor diminished during the Period for which he shall have been elected, and he shall not receive within that Period any other Emolument from the United States, or any of them."

All Presidents have taken a salary, even if some of them donated it all to charity.  George Washington declined at first but Congress felt that it was important that personal wealth not be a point of distinction in regards to public office.

Here's the context.  So, let's say Trump declines the salary.  Suppose the next president is a democrat who is also fairly wealthy.  Republicans be all like "well Trump declined his salary, so you should too, unless you're greedy".  And then the next president is a wealthy republican, and the democrats are all like "well you're rich too, you should decline the salary".  And so on so forth.

Eventually, you have someone who is running for president who isn't all that wealthy.  He gets elected to office, and unlike the other presidents who declined it, he could actually use the money.  But the opposing party (whichever it happens to be) is all like "omg that dude is so greedy.  How dare he take his salary."  So this discourages that person from running, since they would not be able to pursue other economic oppurtunites while in office.  And if he does take the office, he is theoretically more likely to be bribed if he actually needs the money.

Of course, all of this is predicated on the idea that a not rich person can run for president, and that's kind of doubtful (although Bernie came pretty close and he's doing ok but not rich compared to Trump or even Hillary).  But basically, they just don't want to set a precedent where a president is expected to turn down the salary, because that would make the process (more) biased towards the wealthy.  Of course it may not happen that way, but it could, and this was the argument presented to George Washington when he did not want to take a salary.  The simple solution is for Trump simply to take the money and donate it to a charity.

The point of the article was to explain that there is a good reason for people to want Trump to take the money, even if it is counterintuitive.  But instead of actually examining the article, the guy on youtube plucked quotes out of context and said "SEE THE CRAZY LIBERALS ARE BEING CRAZY!"  Then someone posted it on this board and they were like "OMG SOCIAL JUSTICE WARRIORS ARE GOING INSANE".  And then people read nothing but the OP, and were all like "Wow that's crazy.  Liberals really are nuts."

And shit like that is why we have the issues we do.  It's not because the media is rigged (although it might be).  It's because people want to react but don't want to research.

Well, in a real democracy you wait 4 years and try it all over again. Not attack the current president for wanting to eat a steak dinner with his family or whatever =(

eh, I don`t completely agree. In a real democracy criticising the currently elected people for anything and everything should be totally ok, no need to wait 4 years for that. But people really are going way too far with it. He isn`t even technically president yet and people are already freaking out

People are freaking out because he's given them ample reason to freak out.

Nothing but it is wrong if you're trying to ban people from doing yoga, for example.

That's a straw man: the vast majority do not advocate for such ridiculous things, but most people take those crazy people and act as if that's how everyone is. I am heavily against video game censorship (as I believe that even if games are sexist they are an important part of our history and will allow for easier historical analysis of modern-day culture), but still recognize the problems that many groups face.

I think the vast majority of them are like that. You're free to disagree. Some are probably crying about Overwatch characters as we speak.

I was going to say some stuff, but it's mostly the same stuff JWeinCom said.  I just have two questions for you:
1.  Did you actually read the Politico article he's talking about?
2.  What did you think about the extremely intellectually dishonest way he completely ignored what that article said about the Washington precedent and acted as if the Politico article was unaware of it?

Has he? He`s said he`s going to do some crazy stuff, but will he actually do it? And even if he does stuff like builds a Mexican wall and bans muslim immigrants... who really cares? Sure it`s a waste of taxpayers money, but I expect you`d be hardpressed to find a single president who can`t be deemed to have wasted taxpayers money on something...

If someone says they are going to do crazy stuff, and then that person becomes president, I'd say that's a pretty damn good reason to freak out.

Enforcing illegal immigration laws? Securing borders? Oh no, those really are crazy stuff.

Building a 50 foot wall along over a thousand miles of territorial line to keep Mexicans from illegally immigrating back to Mexico is pretty crazy.
