Niche games, it's not about Nintendo but Atlus's RPGs. i'm not even sure they know these games even exist. I'm not sure about color splash but it seems unpopular.

That's not how this works, I mean who the fuck is Abzu/Firewatch/Inside/Overwatch? Atlus games more niche compared to some indie trash? There is no place in the RPG category for actual good rpgs? Some WOW addon and some Polish DLC counts as rpgs?

just because a game has a cartoony look doesnt mean it has good art direction. fact is Paper Mario has a pretty bland art desgin.

PM:CS has a good art direction and gorgeous music. I can't say that game should be winner, but at least being nominee.

About hypocrisy: Everyone know, that objectively Bayonetta 2 was GOTY 2014. It was perfect game, caressed by critics and players. And they not dared give Wii U exclusive GOTY status.

no mans sky wins every category it can be listed on. anything else can't be taken serious.

Best Role Playing Game

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Blood & Wine

A DLC is th best rol playing game for you?

I'm not sure if dlcs should be nominated, I would used that space for the criminally underrated TMS#FE

I went with how I thought the awards would go, otherwise I'd pick XCX, or raise an objection as to why TMS#FE is not on the list!!! D:<

Looking back on the list, I am quite shocked that Color Splash isn't even in the 'Best Art Direction' category, as it has quite an excellent presentation. Must have been that no even played it, so they just.... forgot about it

Truth be told, none of those screen grabs, with exception to this one, really did anything for me.  As was compared with Tearaway, I see it the minor league in comparison.

Wether you like Tearaway more or less, this game looks phenomenal and it can't be denied it has a good art direction.

My personal picks:

Oh didn't know we were doing this (and I assume it only includes the nominees in the OP, otherwise it'd look very different)

Game of The Year:   Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (veeeery close with Doom, but the MP makes the difference here, even though both MPs suck a bit)

Best Studio/Game Direction: Naughty Dog

Best Narrative: Oxenfree

Best Art Direction:  Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (close with Abzu)

Best Music/Sound Design: Thumper

Best Performance: Cissy Jones (Firewatch)

Games for Impact Award: no idea

Best Indipendent Game: The Witness

Best Mobile/Handheld Game: Fire Emblem Fates

Best VR Game: Thumper

Best Action Game: Doom

Best Action/Adventure Game: Hitman

Best Role Playing Game: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Best Fighting Game: didn't play any of them

Best Family Game: Ratchet & Clank

Best Strategy Game: Total War: Warhammer

Best Sports/Racing Game: didn't play any of them

Best Multiplayer Game: nothing

If TLG was already out it'd take about half of these. There's always next year

I am not saying you guys are wrong but merely saying it has 'good art direction' and just throwing pics into your posts does very little to actually explain why you think it has good art direction.

What makes it good? and how does that make it better than at least one of the candidates on the nominee list?

I never said it was best or worse than any other, I said is ridiculous to suggest is bland or weak, and the reasons are obvious just by actually looking it, it would not be the first time someone judges some Nintendo game without even really looking it first, that kind of ignorance is very usual here, so that's the reason for the pictures.

I agree that CS deserved a place in the Art Direction category.

I didn't say any more since pics have already been added to the thread, and it's something best experienced first hand by playing the game.

I have said before that the world feels like it was carefully created by a child, using all sorts of paper crafts, like cardboard, construction paper, and that shiny foil paper. Even the coins are made of cardboard and glitter paper. It feels as if the whole game is narrated by a child, and that makes it seem like a good fit in the category.

I find the Goty list to be underwhelming to be honest. The absence of Dark Souls 3 is very disappointing.

Bloodborne winning nothing there last year should be more than enough to know those guys suck, or TLOU not winning GOTY there when it was winning everywhere.
What matters are the bulk of the awards, this is just another one

Not even the bulk of the awards matter that much, when thinking about it. But it is always nice to see good games get some recognition. Some excellent games simply does not have enough publicity to be considered for Goty on a wide scale.
