This topic came to mind for me as I was recently at a flea market and came across the coolest fossil of a computer/gaming device that I've ever seen in the "wild", and I wanted to share and see if anyone else has found cool things. It was dirty as heck and they couldn't verify that it worked, but they asked for so little that I thought it was worth the risk.

They still had the user manual which said it was a "commodore sx-64", something I'd never heard of.

More importantly, though, it came equipped with a built in screen that it claimed was color despite dating to 1983. I was impressed enough that I'd have dropped $80, but they only asked $40.

It appears to have been what passed for a "portable" computer at the time (it weighs like 15 lbs or something lol) with the keyboard fitting over top the screen and clipping into position. Either way, the screen ended up looking perfect and everything appears to work great except for the disk drive, which can't seem to load images or games properly (I'm going to disassemble and clean). Otherwise, it also has multiple joystick ports, room for an additional drive, a serial port, and a cartridge slot for games.

So yes, does anyone else occasionally hit up a flea market or thrift store? Ever find any cool games or electronics (or anything else for that matter)? Feel free to share!

i remember seeing a dude who sold the original pokemon cards at $10 a pack...now they're worth 100+ depending on the type, reaching as high as 400. I wish my younger self sucked it up and took it all.

I also recall seeing a person offer their bike from the 70's for $20. Still have it to this day. Unusable, but a cool thing to have.

edit: Great find! Old stuff is always cool.

Not a flea market but the craziest thing I've ever found. I am a video game collector btw. I always have someone check a house befor I have someone demo it. Well I got a call that this house was full of old computer junk. When they showed me what they found I could hardly believe it. nes controllers, sears atari, colecovision plus expansion module 1 in the styrofoam with a ton of games, controllers and video Game Center case, intellivision II with a few games, ti 99-4a with over 40 games, voice synthesizer and soo many manuals and a shit ton of fishing tackle. I just about died and went to heaven. Crazy day.

Not gaming related but I just got some awesome ties. One is gold, and the other a deep green teal. These are ties I wear for work, so I'm happy with 'em.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

I heard great things about Flea markets growing up. Like I heard you could get weird stuff, brass knuckles, switch blades, and other cool stuff that a kid would want but no sane adult would sell. The only thing I ever found cool at a Flea market was speakers for my car. I was pretty dissatisfied.

I got a copy of Mario Kart 7 for 9,99€, while elsewhere it was at least 29-35€ used.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I've gotten many games over the years from flea markets and thrift stores. I'm not sure what my best acquisition was, though.

I've found an Atari 2600 Jr. with 20 games for about $50, and a copy of Mike Tyson's Punch Out for $5.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
