Forums - Nintendo - I see no sense in Nintendo Switch, it`s a terrible idea

Great games and experiences need a great hardware. AI, in-game physics, visuals ( yes, they do matter), smoothness, connectivity and others requires hardware to be able to exist. The evolution of games isn`t just about visuals, experience wise whitout more hardware juice isn`t impossible to improve too. Imagine if we still had NES hardware, many entire genres would be impossible. Hardwares does matter, this is what Nintendo don`t see to realize.

Have you seen Breath of Wild? It's possible with Wii U HW and rumours are pointing the Switch to be more powerful than Wii U. So this dramatization isn't necessary.

And the way it is, it`s just a tablet with a TV dock, I don`t see where`s the inovation at.

What kind of innovation you would like to see from them that it is at the same time a good idea?

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

I want to see their game line up before stating anything about the console. At this stage I think the idea makes sense in Japan and depending on battery life and price could work in the west as well.

I mean, if Nintendo said " we`re not going to release a home console again, but, we are selling this incredible portable device and we are also allowing consumers to play on TV by using the included base" it would be just fine, but saying  Switch is a home console first makes no sense at all. I see nothing good coming from Switch, it`s sounds even worse than Wii U, and Wii U was an already horrible idea.

Nintendo has a real problem for not wanting to follow tech trends, because of that they missed all generations after SNES with the excpetion of Wii. Why Nintendo keep doing it? Why they seem to want to fail so hard? Why just not make console with really good specs and Nintendo games and stop doing this thing of trying to be different with no clear advantage?

Wii was a hit, but only Wii. Why is it so hard for Nintendo to just buy some nice components and make great software? I mean, I really don`t understand what Nintendo is still doing in hardware business for home consoles. Switch is heading to be a big disappointment for those who want to see Nintendo doing great again.

Not going even for PS4/XB1 level, when those were already underpowered for 2013 and even more for 2016 is really pointless.

That's all your opinion.  I have a Wii U along with lots of games and I love it.  My favorite feature are the local multiplayer games that can be played two player without split screen.  As for the Switch, just because you don't like it doesn’t mean it's a bad idea.  Again, that's you opinion and not one shared by most of the people who have had the privilege to work with them.  I think it’s a great idea to be able to seamlessly go from home console to portable is fantastic.  Just because it’s not a feature that you’d use doesn’t mean others wont.

My question is why do you feel compelled to spend your time complaining about something you’ll probably not even buy.  The amount of hate in this world is mind boggling.  Your time would be much better spent on more positive things.

So, just think of it as a portable console. Problem solved. /thread

This. You either like the functionality or you don't. why anyone is obsessed over the semantics of "home console" vs "handheld" is beyond me.

Well said sir, well said.

I don't know if you try to support OP or if you are sarcastic. If you're sarcastic, never mind, forget about it. If you support him, however, let me kindly tell you that there are plenty of advantages which have already been pointed out a million times in dozens of threads on this site, but unfortunately you haven't seen them.

Depends on how you use it. If I leave it in the dock and never take it out, what is it then?

A Wii U.

2 screens vs one screen. Not the same.

First, don't pay attention of Nintendo PR talk, that just PR talk saying that Switch is home console on 1st place only because Wii U is dead while they still need to sell 3DS and Pokemon this holiday season. Reality is that Switch is hybrid of home console and handheld that can be used like real home console or like real handheld. Actually Switch look pretty interesting and totally different than others consoles on market, console that can be used like real home console and like real handheld, with 100% Nintendo support, looks and sounds incomparible better than Wii U.

Actually with Switch they are following tech trend, Switch will have very modern hardware and tech (actualy more modern than PS4/XB1). Nintendo is trying to do something different than competition because there is no place on market with 3 identical consoles, and thats good beacuse we have something diffrent and intresting compared to other consoles on market, nobody really wants another PS4/XB1 clone or imagine last gen with another clone of PS3/Xbox 360.

Wii was actually biggest Nintendo success on console market and console that beat "HD twins", but you forget that GameCube that was traditional console with good specs and games was actually worst selling Nintendo home console till that date. They doing things on their own way, interesting and different, they don't pursuit just a power with strongest specs. Actualy Switch is to be great thing for those who want to be Nintendo hardware and Nintendo games be popular again after Wii U, but disappointment for people who want that Nintendo be more like Sony and MS.

With your last paragraph you basically said you care only about hardware power not about great games or experience.

I would like to hear how gaming as a whole evolved from last generation to current generation. What kind of new experiences did we get?

So you basically saying is how much game is good depends of hardware power!? :D

Did you actually played some of Wii U games like Mario Kart 8, Mario 3D World, Zelda WW HD, Splatoon, Smash Bros...they are all great games and experiences with good visuals despite Wii U is much more weaker than XB1/PS4, and they are all miles better games for instance than Order 1886 that has very impresive tehnical graphic.

Nintendo actually realize that for gaming experience and great games you don't need strongest specs on market, you can make great games even with weak hardware (look at Wii and Wii U Nintendo games) and that great game isn't equal to numbers of polygons and details on screen or technically graphiclly impressive game. For instance you can bet that Zelda BotW will be one best games of this gen despite running on hardware that's much less powerful than PS4 Pro.
