During NVIDIA’s latest financial call, CEO Jen-Hsun Huang fielded a question about the company’s growth in gaming revenue. Revenue in this area saw a 60 percent jump and rose by $576 million over the last quarter.

The question prompted Huang to share some interesting comments about Switch and NVIDIA’s overall relationship with Nintendo. If his opinion, he believes the two sides could work together for two decades.

Here are Huang’s comments in full:

“I guess you could also say that Nintendo contributed a fair amount to that growth. And over the next – as you know, the Nintendo architecture and the company tends to stick with an architecture for a very long time. And so we’ve worked with them now for almost two years. Several hundred engineering years have gone into the development of this incredible game console. I really believe when everybody sees it and enjoy it, they’re going be amazed by it. It’s really like nothing they’ve ever played with before. And of course, the brand, their franchise and their game content is incredible. And so I think this is a relationship that will likely last two decades and I’m super excited about it.”

Switch will be incorporating a custom Tegra processor from NVIDIA. Previously, it was said that “development encompassed 500 man-years of effort across every facet of creating a new gaming platform: algorithms, computer architecture, system design, system software, APIs, game engines and peripherals.”

It seems that Nintendo will use Nvidia tech for next hardwares also, they want to stick to one architecture for long time.

Or they plan no new hardware for the next 2 decades and stick with the Switch ;)

The most important part of this is....

in the year 2037, Nintendo is doomed

Good news for the possibility of an upgradable generation-less model?

Yes, multiply hardwares that play all same games, something similar like PS4 and PS4 Pro.

I expect that if Switch is successful, they will do their regular five year cycle and allow for full BC. This makes sense if they are keeping the same architecture.

Or they will do mid gen upgrades like Sony and MS are starting. I think it is a foul practice but if they have proper 3rd party support from the west, they might have to. If not then it is whatever they want to do. If they truly merge both console and handheld divisions, they can be successful doing their own thing. Not as successful, but profitable non the less.

Five year cycle is dead and cant survive in modern time, we will have mid gen upgrades that will play same games, something similar like PS4 and PS4 Pro.

There's no evidence for this.  It's just being assumed.  Honestly, the Pro and Scorpio are likely the result of Sony and MS rushing the original PS4 and Xbone to market.  We may see it again next gen or we may never see it again.

IF, the Switch isn't a failure that is.

I mean 5-6 year cycle without any console or upgrade in meantime, we will most likely see PS5. I Switch case I definitely seeing, Switch pocket in 2-3 years and Switch Home (that will be more powerfule Swith for console for just home playing).
