Nothing really too noticeable, compare with Mass Effect:

I'll be getting the PS3 version, I'll probably end up owning only one console this gen for the first time in ages...

OMG is that video real? isnt it a scratched disk (hey... it could happen) or an agonizing XBOX360 (cough...) ???
I haven't played that game, haven't even seen it actually, but for all the fuzz i thought that it had to be amazing.. is that seriously a 2nd gen xbox360 title??
Listen to the voice of reason, then do as I say.

Whether GTA4 looks better on the ps3 or the 360 doesn't matter at all. The 360 version will most probably sell more as the 360 has a larger install base. Add in the DLC on the 360 and its game over. And I don't think some stupid home room is as good as more mission within the game etc. Although I admit I don't know what the DLC will be, I can't wait to find out as I'm sure microsoft will be telling everyone soon enough.

Eurogamer just released an article on March 25th (their 10th in a series) comparing PS3 and 360 multiplatform games... I'll save everyone some time and sum up what they said... Army of Two - 360 runs at 720p with anti-aliasing, PS3 version runs with a border and below 720p resolution and to add insult to injury it has no anti-aliasing. Blacksite: Area 51 - They call the conversion of it to PS3 "horrifically, jaw-droppingly awful" and that the PS3 version is "ten times worse" than the already mediocre 360 version. Lost Planet: Extreme Condition - They are surprised at the worse colour balance of the PS3 version as well as the "inclusion of horrible motion blur and some truly horrendous frame-rate drops" compared to the 360 version. Conflict: Denied Ops - It's development must have led on the 360 because the PS3 version is substandard with frame rate drops, pared down visuals, and the anti-aliasing on the 360 version replaced with an indistinct blur on the PS3. Dynasty Warriors 6 - They're surprised at the "love and attention" that the 360 gets at the hands of these developers since it's gameplay is identical to the PS3 version even though the Xbox 360 must contribute so little to KOEI's overall revenue. The only way to tell the games apart is that the pre-rendered video sequences look better on the PS3 thanks to Blu-Ray. Lost: The Video Game - "The Xbox 360 version is considerably better than its Playstation 3 sibling. "The PS3 version definitely lags behind, not just in terms of refresh speed but also in the introduction of annoying screen tear which is far less prevalent on the Microsoft console. It's yet another game that 'benefits' from the PS3 Vaseline effect, whereby the 4x multi-sample anti-aliasing of the 360 game is replaced by a blur that attempts to simulate the same effect.". Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 - Pretty much the same, they just mention that the 360 version scales up nicely. So for those keeping track that's: 360 - 5 PS3 - 1 Tie - 1 source: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=128362 |
Wow, so even 18 months later, despite having PS3 devkits for longer PS3 is still struggeling in its ability to run multi-platform games on a Core 360 level, some of those downgraded are game breaking. Sony really needs to go to someone else with their console design next gen - if there is a PS4 - because launching later at ahigher price with inferior hardware is pretty pathetic.
Thank god most games lead on 360 for better textures, real-time rumble, shorter load times, higher frame-rates and no graphical downgrades.

"the game itself. the team at bioware in a way shipped out mass effect maybe a month or so too early so they couldn't fix out all the bugs like slow texture load tims. it's a real shame :( but hopefully they could create a patch to fix these problems. also just look past these problems and this game is sweet! i'm on my third playthrough and i'm doing as much side missions as possible! it's just simoply a great game. "
quoted from the youtube comments. everyone says its happening so the games not just a couple people.
more ppl will prb. get for the 360 - the DLC sways the tide to 360

Gears of War was considered to be the first 3rd generation 360 game, this game like Bioshock is based on this engine. Halo 3 is difficult to clasify, they made some huge technical sacrifices for this game, IMO really unimpressive for the most high profile, long development time, high budget 360 exclusive. GTA IV and Gears 2 should be about as good as it gets on the 360.
Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank: Tools of destruction I consider genuine 2nd generation PS3 games. Some 3rd generation exclusive games available for christmas should really showcase the technical gap between 360 and PS3. Resistance 2 is certainly a 3rd generation game, having moved nearly all main engine code onto the Cell's SPUs.
| MikeB said: The exclusive episodes for the 360 are nice, but offers no real system selling potential. Free online multiplayer, free Home integration + DLC, no disc scratching / RRod worries, alledged better graphics for the PS3 version, no annoying drive noise, etc should be of greater importance. A PS2 GTA fan will probably prefer the PS3 controller which is very similar to the PS2 controller, also all major PS2 exclusives (Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, The Getaway, Jak & Daxter, God of War, etc, etc) are more or less all comfirmed to come to the PS3 exclusively. Really... Does nobody here see there are some very strong points to the advantage of the PS3 summarized above? IMO much stronger than the 2 non-free future espisodes nobody knows anything about and cheaper entry price (but lots of hidden costs as well as much lower entry specifications). |
Dude, none of what you said in favor of the PS3 version has anything to do with the actual game (the topic of this thread) it's just the same rehashed fanboy arguments in favor of the PS3 itself.
You're probably right though that the exclusive episodes won't be too big of a system selling factor because only the hardcore will know/care about them. In the long run I think the PS3 version will sell more just because it's a long running franchise on the playstation.
