Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Discussion Thread: The Greatest Games Event 2016 - Finish Your Lists!!

Missed a few days since I was busy with some other things but here's some updates!

#49. Fire Emblem Fates

My entry into the FE series and it was pretty recent too so I don't have too much to say about this one, except for that it's really only the second SRPG that I have played, the first one was LOTR: Third Age on GBA, an underrated gem but it didn't make the list. The beginning was a bit rough and I was a bit let down with the writing and story but when I managed to get the ball rolling it became a pretty addicting game. Overall it was a good gateway game into the genre.

#48 Animal Crossing

I can't even imagine how many hours I put into this game as a kid, I think I considered it to be my favourite game of all time for a bit too. While I haven't played the Gamecube original in a few years and the gameplay is not as polished as in newer games such as New Leaf, this one manages to hold a special place in my heart. I have a lot of vivid and great memories about this game and its charm still gets me to this day. A game from a simpler, more carefree, time.

#47 Age of Empires III

A bit of a strange game this one is. Age of Empires 3 did away with the 2D graphics from AoE 1 and 2 along with the historical campaigns in favour of 3D graphics and a main story based on fictional events, at least until the expansions. This game also saw a change in overall RTS combat because most units now were ranged gunpowder units and the scope this time was limited to the New World. But despite being so different, AoE 3 was stil a great RTS game and I spent countless hours in the map editor, campaign and random maps .

#47 - Legend of Legaia - PS1

Hint #46 - Maybe the cutest game of this generation. The game is overshadowed by an ocean of other platformers in my favourite 8th gen system.

It has to be Yoshi's Wooly World.

These could be anything, lol.

#48 Legacy of Kain?

#47 Prince of Persia?

Nope on both.

#48 A bunch of freedom fighters want to overthrow an evil dictator in this futuristic FPS

#47 "Cepatan. Buka pintu!"

- Could 48 be Red Faction?

46 – Counter-Strike

When I became a teenager the arcades were already dying: in my town you’d still find a Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi or Metal Slug machine in some bars, but the amusement arcade had almost disappeared. However, I was able to see the rise of the cyber-cafés as a place where I could go with my friends in order to play videogames. We spent countless hours playing online multiplayer games in one of those cyber-cafes, and Counter-Strike was one of our favorites. Although I was never very good at it, those police against terrorist matches always were a thrill.

47. The fastest thing alive, but not so fast here without blast processing.

Can't spell 'Blast Processing' without Sonic.

I'm not sure though if you indeed mean Sonic 1 or if you mean something on another platform because of the "not here... without..."-part. If that's the case I'm probably not going to know.

Too cryptic? Second hint-time then;

#46: Callsigns of the famous pilots in this huge phenomenon of a franchise usually start with the letter 'R', but instead of 'Red' or 'Rogue', the callsign of the player's character implies he's a bit more, novice.

Hint 2: So because you're just a Rookie, on one of the missions you'll have to "Follow [his] lead, and do as [he] says."

#46 Borderlands 2

Quite a recent entry into the top 50, as I only just recently played this game for the first time. One of the few FPS games I can genuinely say I thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end without reservations. However, this is only in local co-op, as I honestly doubt I would have liked the game nearly as much had I been playing it alone. With someone else playing in the same room with you Borderlands 2 was an absolute blast, and one of the best games I've played this year as a result.

Here's a hint for #45 then:

A comedic FPS made by the people behind Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark. One of my favourite local multiplayer games ever, although the monkeys can go to hell.

#45. The only one in the series where your weapon can go in 8 directions.

Timesplitters?

---------------------------------------------------------------

I'm going with two new hints:

#44: For the first time in the franchise, this game went "multiplatform", although both versions had significant diferencies, among them the last word in the title.

#43: This is the third entry in a strategy series. A leader's life can last thousands of years, although his/her costume will change through time.
