And there we go, the top 10, the cream of the crop. These games are unlikely to ever lose their spot this high in the list.
#10: This game features a warping-item originally from another game completely.

#12 Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

The best game in the MGS series. Snake Eater did away with the convoluted plot twists and presented players with what I consider the best written and structured game in the franchise. The gameplay is fun and varied, and the game has many of the series best boss fights, including the memorable fights against The End and of course, The Boss.
#11 Dark Souls II

Considered by many the weakest entry in the series. However, I found myself enjoying Dark Souls II immensely. It's true that the world isn't as well designed as in Dark Souls I, but I still think its a worthy entry into the series, and one of my favourite games from the previous console generation. Now that I've finally gotten a PS4 I can start playing through Bloodborne and DS III as well. Maybe next year those will make their way into the list too.
Now then, let's break open the top 10.
#10: Time compression is one of this game's key plot points.

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]
So I'm at the airport, should be trying to sleep, but let's get over with this. No images, no fancy centered titles, short paragraphs (HA!).
#18 - Super Smash Bros. U
To be fair, if I owned or had owned Melee, it would probably be even higher than Sm4sh, but alas. Anyway, if you know me, I like eSports or competition/tournaments, and fighting games fit that part of me pretty well. But I don't like traditional fighting games; they're too slow and combos don't feel intuitive. Enter a party game from Nintendo! It's fast, creative, it has Nintendo characters! Again, it isn't Melee, which has a more in depth and tech-heavy metagame, but Sm4sh is still very good competitively. It's also one of the most balanced fighting games of all time, with over 50 characters!
#17 - Mario Kart DS
Great singleplayer, customization, missions, battle mode, online?? Awesome. Some of my greatest memories come from this game, playing in Middle school or with cousins. It also originated the best track ever: Waluigi Pinball.
#16 - Castlevania
Remember how I said I like old, hard games? This is exactly what I meant. Tight controls, weird physics, amazing level design (in the mid 80s!?), the hearts-secondary weapon compliment each other like Mac n Cheese, amazing soundtrack (my favorite 8 bit music), heck it even looks great. I should get Castlevania 3.
#15 - Earthbound
Ok, this is a long one. Earthbound is not a classic RPG. It doesn't take place in a fantasy world, sort of. It's freaking USA in the 90s. It was made as Japan's perspective of the West, including drugs, alcohol, domestic abuse, hollywood, prostitutes, the god damn KKK... It breaks the 4th wall in multiple occasions; the game isn't scared of doing what it does. But it's also the story of a kid, growing and learning about himself, meeting countless of friends, enemies, accepting and challenging fate, never giving up. Teaches you that family is always there. And god damn it, there a smiling dinosaurs! It's a freakishly creative game, made with an adult's mind and a kid's heart. There's a lot about it that I would like to analyse some day. Gameplay was decent. OST is great.
#14 - Pokemon X
Let's put this straight. The story sucks. The plot blows. All the characters are dumb and annoying. GameFreak seemed to just put random dialogues and characters all over the place. Lysandre is boring and uninspiring. Forgettable Gym Leaders. Hands down the worst cast in the series.
But gameplay is 10/10. Turned me over into a competitive player. Catching shinies was easy. Megaevolution seemed dumb and silly at first, but it truly shaked up the meta for the better. Battles were fast and fun. 3D was, imo even with all the chibi stuff, great. But OST is a mixed bag. Sadly, I like games more for their gameplay and not story, and I played over 600 hours of Pokemon X, so I had to pur it pretty high.
#13 - Kingdom Rush
God damn it, I love this game. I don't know what to say. You ever played a Tower Defense game? This is literally the best in that genre. Go play it. It's free!
#12 - PT
I also love (or want to love) horror stuff. Books, movies, games. They mostly suck, because people can't tell the difference between "surprise" and "fear". Not PT. It plays with your mind. Everytime you go through that door, you want, no, you hope it's the last time. But it never ends. There are creepy noises all around, flickering lights, random messages from nothing, a split-second monster; it's all tricks on you. You fear this game. It does abuse of some jumpscares, which are dumb, but they're pretty scarce all around. Also, it was free? Count me in. Hopefully Death Stranding is truly what PT was going for. Might get a PS4 just for it (and Bloodborne + I want another Katamary Damacy...). I should also get some Silent Hills games...
Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Wasn`t PT meant as a demo? Very impressive that a game intended as a demo can end up in somebody`s top 50 list, let alone so high up. |
Ground Zeroes was also intended as a demo. But because it has a price tag, doesn't make it better.

Lazy update time.
#17 Atelier Ayesha Alchemist of Dusk.

With its deep alchemy mechanic, cute girls, fun and entertaining characters, turn based RPG, OST that can put to shame most of its genre, is everything I can ask for really, one of those stories that are more on the unique side, very slice of life type game, not some grand epic adventure.
#16 Tales of Phantasia

The one that started the series, super charming game, with memorable characters, great story, level design, still a very solid title and of the best from the Tales series.
#15 Super Metroid

What can I say about this one that hasn't been said multiple time, the great atmosphere, the exploration, etc makes for one of the, if not the best game on the series and on the genre as a whole.
#14 The Wonderful 101

While far from being perfect, it is still one of the most memorable, over the top gaming experience I have ever had, with its great and deep combat mechanics, awesome soundtrack and just pretty much every scenario that this game throws at you, it makes for my favorite action game ever made.
#13 Mischief Makers

That one game probably nobody has heard about, one of the few 2D platformers of the N64 (mostly sprites at that) with one of the most unique mechanics I have ever seen on a platformer (SHAKE SHAKE), really bizarre characters and story, unique soundtrack and just a fun time overall, is one of my most cherished games from my childhood that I still play to this day.
#12 Pokemon Black / White Version

The definitive Pokemon game for me, a new region with only new Pokemon for the main story, little musical touches like the pinch theme and final gym leader pokemon theme, details on top of its already great soundtrack, a simple yet very solid, well structured and great paced plot with a great ammount of memorable characters, the usual tunings done to the overall game better from its predecessors and we get a Pokemon game that has yet to be topped in my eyes.
#11 Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn

So far, the most challenging FE game I have ever played, with great level design, lots of memorable characters, a full closure to the Radiant games while still being able to stand on its own.
