#13 Final Fantasy X

One of the best games of the 6th console generation in my opinion. Great characters, well told story, beautiful visuals and art style, one of the best battle systems in the entire series and an excellent soundtrack make Final Fantasy X an amazing game. Not quite the best in the series, but close.

Hint for #12:

In this prequel to the entire series you are looking for a massive tank capable of launching nuclear missiles in the jungles of the soviet union.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Edit: Yuna's sending is still among my top Final Fantasy moments to this day.

Right again. And yes, the sending at Kilika is one of the best moments in the series.

Kula World (US: Roll Away) as guessed by Ka-pi96

The best game to ever grace a PlayStation console wasn't something high profile, but it was the puzzle-game 'Kula World', known as 'Roll Away' in the US. It is a very obscure game, and though there have been multiple, it is actually one of the most obscure games on my list and it would probably score high on anyone's list in that regard. It's a shame it would.

The player controls a beach-ball around an obstacle course. The ball can roll around all sides of floating beams and jump from one to another to try to reach the coins, fruits and the keys, which open up the exits of the levels. Getting the ball on the correct side of the beams is the real puzzle here, and it's very challenging. There are however so many levels, that I never even finished it. Though it certainly wasn't for the lack of trying, the game is very addicting. When the player gathers five pieces of fruit, the game proceeds to a bonus level to gather extra points and lives.

It's a timeless game, even if the graphics are dated today and weren't even that good to begin with back then. I've never played another puzzle-game that's as addictive as this one was. Never a platform-game that had you think about your next step, ten steps in advance like this one did. Due to this, it's the only "classic" I bought off the PSN store to own a second time, the only one worthy.

I hope nobody saw I accidentally initially posted the game I'm hinting at now instead of Kula World lol.

#11: Probably if I even quote a single one-liner here, everyone will know what game I'm talking about.

Well, I'm probably getting this hint wrong, but the only thing I can associate with that line is a song from A Flock of Seagulls (lol). So um, I guess, Guitar Hero Encore?

Nope.

Here's another hint: that song was not only on the game, but also on the ad.

#16. Mega Man 4

For me, the Mega Man series reached its peak with the fourth installment. While 2 was great and 3 was pretty good, 4 had by far the best production value and polished gameplay. The robot masters, stages and weapons were pretty well designed, the Mega Buster was a great addition without feeling too broken (yet) and the new Cossack stages were pretty fun. Mega Man 4 put together what made the last two games good into one package

#15. Metroid II/AM2R

AM2R was a huge suprise, I saw the project years ago but the prospect of it becoming a reality seemed like a dream but we got it....even if it were only for a few days. I played the original game back when I was a kid and while it was confusing and tedious, overall it was pretty fun, AM2R takes this to a whole new level with a Zero Mission type remake. It felt like I was playing an official remake and not a fan game, great experience and throw back to a simpler time.

#14. Half Life 2

What made Half-Life 2 stand out against other first person shooters was that it was an entire adventure with no interruptions from start to finish. You walk from each location to the next with only one part of the game where you are teleported back. The game also manages to blend several genres into one, adventure, shooter and horror in a natural way. Finally, despite it being a 12 year old game, it still looks and sounds great, definitely a classic.

17 – Goldeneye 007

Goldeneye 007 was the closest thing to a film I had played ever. While playing it, I could really feel like controlling Pierce Brosnan and I found the game’s story better than the film’s one (not sure how, since my English level was mediocre at best, although it improved while I played. While other FPS of that time seemed only labyrinthic corridors where you had to kill enemies, Goldeneye had big open levels (with different settings) with different objectives to achieve.

Also, as with many other N64 games, four player multiplayer modes was were the game shined more. I know that the fps rate was ridiculously low (especially when those damn mines detonated), but that didn’t matter back at the time, and that 4 player fun was something unseen before.
