Forums - Gaming - your controversial opinion about "one of the best games ever made"

The whole Uncharted series is mediocre or below mediocre in my eyes - a lot of identical enemies populating cover rooms with different assets. Stupid stories. Characters are nothing special. Sure, graphics are great and some puzzles are interesting, but this does not make a game. However, Uncharted 3 is a bit above the first two, and I am yet to try UC4.

Just one? I can't do that!

Metal Gear Solid 4 has a horrible story. I don't mind that it's cutscene-heavy, but it simply sucks compared to the rest of the series. It starts out in a pretty good fashion, then everything starts going from good to bad to worse until it's just a mess of intended fan-service that doesn't really serve anyone in the end.

Halo is boring as hell. Well, at least the first one is. I've tried it on what I think is three different instances, and each time it was extremely boring. It's just too slow for those level sizes, and it doesn't feel especially good either. Maybe it was revolutionary for a console shooter, but for me, the experience has totally sucked.

I thought every aspect of Singularity just screamed of EA trying to do Bioshock and it just killed the game for me, there was a few high points during it but it was just such a clear attempt to bag some of that horroresque fps money that Bioshock drummed up, was pretty shameful throughout the game.

Basically my thought is that if 2k hadn't Gone and made Bioshock the great game that it is Activision would never have created Singularity.

wow singularity, I remember that I was hyped but now I can't even remember that game, just like Remember Me from Capcom.

I feel like Uncharted is great because it's entertaining and the presentation is fantastic. Not a game with a lot of depth but something that you can enjoy for a weekend. Yeah not the greatest game ever, although Among thieves is a 1010 for me.

Mario 64.

I honestly think the Mario formula translated horribly to 3D, at least in this particular game, I cant say the same of the games that followed. I felt the game looked hideous  even when it first came out. The sounds annoyed me. The lack of character roster -Playable and unplayable- annoyed me. I can't, for the life of me undestand how some people treat it as the very best Mario game when some of its predecesors were so superior. I wont question its influence in 3D platformers, but the game itself always felt very weak to me.

How do you hate a game you never played?

but mario influenced 3d gaming as a whole :(. No mario, no the witcher 3 :(

BloodRayne is one of the best games ever made.  Come at me.

Of course, the entire subject is kind of subjective.  A lot of classics were among the best when they released, when many people originally played them, but have since been surpassed by the games they inspired.  Some of those games are among the most important games ever made, which is just as great an honor.

Kind of like Tolkien.  Extremely important and influencial but there have since been better writers to enter the genre.

It just means that sometimes people are looking at the same game from two different perspectives.  I hear people talk about how ICO really isn't that good but, for me, it absolutely changed gaming.  I will forever hold that experience with me.  At the time, there was nothing like it and it blew me away.  I'd never felt that kind of emotion with video-games and it influenced a lot of stuff that came after when there was better technology to work with.

Modern Warfare Remastered (CoD4) sucks ass. It's a huge campfest with 0 recoil 2 hit kill weapons and shit map design which significantly caters to headglitchers and snipers, which slows the games down immensely and makes it a bore-fest. And then you also have all the bullshit such as Claymore x2, Frag x3, Stopping Power, Juggernaut, Last Stand, Martyrdom and the shitty way Killstreaks stack.
Yeah, after playing MWR MP for 2 to 3 hours I genuinely would rate it as one of the worst things I've ever played.

Games I don't like that others rave about... Final Fantasy 7, Skyrim, Halo (any I've played), Little big planet, Sonic The Hedgehog 1, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Tetris and I'm sure others.

Super Mario 64 without a single doubt.
An average to good 3D platformer in a gen filled with way, way better options and coming from an exceptional 2D platformer masterpiece as Super Mario World, is exalted as one of and as the very best game by a lot of people not only from its genre or gen but of all time.
There is not a single game that comes remotely close to being as overrated as it is.

I don't agree with this opinion, and many have this opinion. I don't agree because it was the first, so saying "filled with better options" is not fair when you're the pioneer and the creator of the whole concept. It's easy to imitate and add ideas to a concept that you don't have to create from the scratch. Also, in terms of movements not a single platformer from that time had a character as fluid and responsive as mario. The only 3d platformer from that time that could be beside mario 64 is Rayman 2, banjo and kazooie was cool because of the exploration, the whole platforming mechanic was a mess, just like donkey kong 64.
