the last of us used to be 60fps/1080p and on 4k with 30fps you do really get a worse gameplay experience for a better graphical experience

You do however have the option for 1800p 60fps I believe, which is still a huge boost in resolution.

But Digital foundry did show this mode does run at a worse framerate then the 1080p/60fps of the original ps4 :(

Based on what I heard from some playstation channels, the games that do support the pro only offer a boost in resolution and some of them do it at the expense of performance.

That isn't true, from my experience. As I noted before, most games have a tangible boost in visuals AND performance, including, but not limited to, Shadow of Mordor, Titanfall 2, Call of Duty Infinite Warfare, Modern Warfare Remastered, Battlefield 1, Bound, Firewatch, and others. While these games don't have a huge framerate boost, they are noticeably smoother at hitting their target framerates of either 30 or 60 fps. Some games even have modes with an enormous boost to framerate, such as Rise of the Tomb Raider and the two Infamous games.

I finally had the chance to play the Last of Us at supersampled 1080p 60 fps, and though I do not doubt Digital Foundry's assertion that frame drops are likely present, they're slight enough to be unnoticeable to my eye, at least. The image quality is definitely sharper, but framerate looks basically the same as before.

But his comment is right, yours is also, most games see a increase in performance but Skyrim and the Last of us see a decrease in performance:

I've already read the article and seen the video :)

I just wanted to dispute some of the information he had encountered, as he wrote that he had heard games are only getting a resolution boost, when many games are getting a framerate boost as well. I wasn't disputing that some games may have more frame drops, though I am having a hard time making it out in the Last of Us. I've yet to try Deus Ex, however, and I've heard that is much more noticeable.

I have one question, specifically in regards to battlefield 1. Do i have to turn on pro mode?

Nope. At least not with HDR turned on. I tried it this morning. It said 30fps locked or unlocked (???). Not sure if it's up to 60 or what. It just said "unlocked". I said to myself, "I thought 60fps was an option..."

I'm sure playing with HDR turned off is still possible.

I got one yesterday, i don't have a 4k tv but i tried the Japanese ffxv demo..... My God did that look amazing, it has pro support.

I've asked in the proper thread for it without a response, so I'll ask you since you're in my situation (PS4 Pro but only 1080p screen lol), is the difference like enough to notice, like in this .gif?

Because that alone is a pretty great increase, and if I can get that at 1080p and with a higher framerate, I'll be so happy!

Tbh i haven't really noticed any differences thats why im asking if i have to turn something on cause it feels exactly the same as a regular ps4.

I don't know if it's the console or the TV but Flower is a beautiful game. Better than I remember.

Fair do's, just that the way you worded it made it seem like the Pro was an increase over the regular PS4 lol :P This is literally the one question I want answering and nobody can help me with it haha :P

You don't need to turn anything on. You do need to download the patch, it should say something about 4K or pro support in the update history. I can try to spot the difference at 1080p in Infamous First light, switching between inputs. I can make some screenshots of Ratchet & Clank and The last of us too, just need to swap discs between the machines. I also wonder if I can take 4K screenshots with the pro connected to 1080p (I don't have a 4K tv) Trying out later.

That picture represents the difference you'll get in the 1080p mode, yes.

On another note, does anyone know how to get uncompressed screenshots onto a forum like this? I've only ever uploaded screenshots to Twitter with the OG ps4, but that compresses them to hell and the differences would get smudged out.
