Except European countries do invest in strong militaries. The major European countries such as the UK and France have comparable military budgets to Russia and the combined armies of European countries also outnumber those of Russia. The problem is that firstly Europe is not united, that isn`t one military that`s being invested in and is organised together, but many different ones. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, most European countries don`t want a major war and would try to avoid it at all costs but also simply don`t care that much about the eastern European countries.

And a combined EU military? Have you seen the EU? In it`s current form that would just be a terrible idea and a huge waste of money and resources.

I think Europe (- UK) are quite close. Did they not discuss an EU Military a few months ago ? Tie all those resources and make it more efficent. Would even safe costs and the small countries would feel more protected. 

We will see if Brexit will bring EU closer together or further apart. I believe that EU needs some structural reform. But all in all its a very good thing. And actually protects Europe and their interests in this world. 

I think EU needs to be a counter balance between Russia, middle east, china and USA.

Trump has the house and a stable majority in the Senate. He has no obstacles and is free to do what he wants.
