Forums - Gaming - Microsoft is refunding Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare PC players because no one is playing it

Wait so PC players are separated depending on which store you purchase from?

That's a slap in the face.

As far as I know, that's actually pretty common. It's probably due to things related to authenticating users and ownership. If a games uses a platform for authentication, there needs to be an authentication system for each platform that has multiplayer, and if there's multiplayer between different platforms, the game has to be able to work with different authentication methods at the same time. Well, actually I think it's the server that has to be able to do that, but it's still probably some extra work. I don't think it sounds like a huge amount of work, but the fact that the division isn't rare says something about the situation.

Well looking at that player count it won't be long before players on Steam will be asking for a refund for the same reasons. If you're a fan of cod you really should be buying it on ps4/xb1.

A PC gamer doesn't buy a FPS on consoles when the same game exists on PC, for obvious reasons. Maybe if keyboard/mouse support was something natural more people would consider it.

Playing an FPS with a control pad is like playing violin with oven mitts :/

Microsoft is to blame..(they're the ones giving out refunds) And it's the same reason why Final Fantasy XIV will never be on Xbone.

Why are they still dividing the playerbase? Steam players cannot play with Windows Live. It's so stupid lol

Why would anyone think that would be a good idea? I'd love to know if this was an Activision or a Microsoft decision.

Oh, I bet we could take an educated guess.....

- "If you have the heart of a true winner, you can always get more pissed off than some other asshole."

If it's really MS that force the split there then are they hoping that everyone left steam and started using the windows store? I think most gamers on PC would sooner go back to Win7 and use steam there than use the steam...ing pile of a service that is GFWL2.0

Could be wrong of course, the choice to keep them separate could be from Activision or from Valve so the blame for this idea might not 100% be in MS's court, sorry if it was explained in the thread, just had a fast glance through, cool that refunds are easy to get though.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

A pc gamer will play games like this on console if he wants active servers for years to come instead of servers that will be dead pretty rapidly after release.

If said gamer wants it enough he'll learn to play a shooter with a controller.  the fact you won't even consider it is putting me off ever wanting to game with a mouse and keyboard.  the last thing i want is for me to think controllers suck and I'll never want to play a shooter on console again.  considering that's where the playerbase is that would be a really shit situation.

Good, if that's how you feel better even not try. Controlers are good for some kinds of games, mouse and kb for others, steering wheels for yet another type. Nothing wrong with enjoying what you want. It doesn't mean servers are empty on pc, this is about the crappy windows store, not pc gaming. If something there will be servers on pc long after the game is dead and burried on consoles

This is a pretty damming issue. The steam community won't be that active or big as it is so the windows community must be tiny.

Active for everything now?.

Big as it is?.

Not really no. Look at TF2 and L4D 1-2 for example on consoles, they are as dead as a dodo compared to PC which is still up and running all these years later. Still plenty playing Planetside 2, a massive open world shooter that's been running since 2012. Then you've still got people to this day that are still playing Bad Company 2 online on PC, on consoles you're SoL.

It's bad port games and ones that withhold servers that die and they deserve to as such, no defending any of those rpactices, nor should they be.

"the fact you won't even consider it is putting me off ever wanting to game with a mouse and keyboard. "

I don't think that actually even matters to what he said. You're now just slinging mud back his way in regards to him using a M+K, completely unwrastned and don't pull a mirror by saying his wasn't either, because the majhority on PC play with a M+K, that is a fact like it or not, not some derogatory insult.

"the last thing i want is for me to think controllers suck and I'll never want to play a shooter on console again."

That's you being sarcastic, there is no hiding that.

"considering that's where the playerbase is that would be a really shit situation. "

Considering that's where it is for that shooter, due to the other being capped in the knees, and that base that won't be there forever either, nor for 10+ years at that. Meanwhile Bad Company 2 players on PC since 2010, TF2 since 2007 and L4D since 2008.

For shooters like titanfall and cod and many battlefields the online steam servers are nearly a ghost town.  I'd never invest in those platforms for those games.  console is where the players are at.
