Capcom Expects Resident Evil 7 to Ship Upwards of 4 Million Copies

Capcom predicts that not only will Resident Evil 7 ship around 4 million copies during the company’s current financial year, but the upcoming horror sequel can become a “foundation title” and enjoy healthy sales figures over the next two-to-three years.

Word comes by way of the publisher’s earnings Q&A — as relayed by GameSpot — where Capcom outlined its forecast for Resident Evil 7. Launching close to the release of live-action movie Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, the company notes that increased brand awareness can help spur sales figures.

“We are expecting 4 million unit sales worldwide in this fiscal year. Also, we expect to recognize sales of the game as a catalog title in the next fiscal year; however, revenue for catalog titles tends to grow in relation with the timing of movie releases and new titles in a series.

“What is more, the sales lifecycles for titles has grown due to digital distribution, so we expect this game to become a foundation title, producing revenue not limited to the next two fiscal years but into the long term as well.”

Though it may come bearing the name The Final Chapter, Capcom isn’t ruling out additional live-action movies (and TV shows?) in the future: “However, as with the feature-length Resident Evil CG films, we will continue a multifaceted expansion in this area beyond the live-action format.”

Resident Evil 7 launches on January 24, 2017, at which point Capcom’s old-school horror sequel will be fully playable via PlayStation VR.

I think it will be more interesting to see how the game is able to push PSVR.

we shall see, but I have to admit the only reason why it's even in my radar is PSVR. Let's hope it goes more to horror and less to action like it's been since RE3

I'll keep an eye open for this but I wont hold my breath.

More excited for the Resident Evil 2 Remake.

All seems to point that way.Anyway, you cant it make it more action in first person.Third person view would be more suited for it.

All in all, Im really hyped for this game and I am expecting the best.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Considering how I feel about the direction RE is going, I hope it flops, and flops hard! Shouldn`t even be that hard, I don`t think a pure horror game has ever sold 4m, actually I think they typically have difficulty even getting to 1m so...

Oh and of course I hope RE2 Remake is a huge hit after to show Capcom what they should be doing with the franchise...

? What's your beef with RE7? I thought people always wanted horror... Now that they do pure horror, we have people like you hoping it flops.

Well I still have RE6 in my backlog, so havent played that one. But looking back, RE5 was actually quite well made for its time. Especially the coop.

I'm looking forward to this game. Just happy its not like 5 and 6 at this point.

I hope people know what the game is before making the leap. I can definitely see a lot of irate fans afterward who didn't do their homework.

I don't really know what to think. I played the demo and it was scary as hell, but I'm going to miss the old-school RE style. Moving away from Resident Evil 5 and 6 was the right move, but I think Capcom moved TOO far away. I'd rather they made a retro RE game as RE7 and released this first-person horror game under a different banner.

Hmmmmm maybe, but I think its too early to tell. For all that has been shown, some of the most important parts(gunplay and puzzles) has been severely lacking in the promotions.Othe than the gamer that dont like first person view, I think this will be more RE than most people think.I dont have any concrete evidence(other than have been already shown), its more of a gut feeling.
