Weren`t you worried a couple months ago that the ultra nationalist right wing people in Austria would get elected? And now you`re berating people for not voting for the ultra nationalist right wing people in America?

Yes, I made a thread about Austria, but I hope you remember that I painted an over the top scenario with Austria and Germany becoming a single country again. On a sidenote, the election results got dismissed due to an improper procedure with the mail votes, then the redo that was planned for September got postponed because of yet another problem (something about bad glue for the mail), and the new date in December might get postponed again because now a fault has been found within the registration process for the mail votes.

As for the USA, I don't think it's as clear here. Trump is the candidate of the Republicans, unlike the situation in Austria where there is a party with a longrunning history behind it. Also, Trump has said many things that he didn't mean seriously in an attempt to get lots of media attention, so his personal political ideologies aren't as clear either.

Trump vs. Clinton can be viewed in different ways. Nationalist vs. globalist or calling out a rigged system vs. embodiment of the rigged system. Regardless of how you view it, Trump is the bad guy, and that's because he wanted to be the bad guy from the beginning. Over here he is portrayed as the devil, but I don't agree with this point of view when his opponent is Clinton who isn't a good person either. The difference is that Trump wants to have the image of a scumbag while Clinton is in fierce denial of being a scumbag. I wouldn't vote anyone if I was eligible to vote (I never go to elections), but if a gun was put to my head and I had to decide between Trump and Clinton, I'd go with Trump as a vote against the American system.

Pretty much how I feel. Echoing what I once said even:

"Obama, and Hillary after him, will continue to shake hands and sign multi billion dollar deals with the likes of oppressive regimes like Saudi Arabia. A country infested with sexism, homophobia, public beheadings and fucking crucifixions. Exactly what ISIS does. But since the US is in bed with Al of Saud, the media chooses to turn a blind eye. It's so hypocritical it hurts.

I chuckle each time media outlets paint Trump as a monster because of something he said, and when the democartic party nominees hold his SEXIST attitude against him. Hello? Slap some fucking sanctions on the likes of Saudi Arabia then I'll take your criticism of Trump seriously. (criticism of things related to social justice and what not, not his economical plans)"

Trump is filthy pig, big fucking deal. She's just as filthy, the only difference is she knows how to give speeches without dripping with filth."

..HOWEVER,  I think that Trump doesn't need to win to shake the system. The system has been shaken and the damage is done. If Trump could such a following by just BEING anti-establishment, imagine what someone who knows what he's doing will be able to do in future elections. Hillary is practically FORCED to serve the people once she wins or else..

So which states would you predict he take to make that come true?

Michigan for sure. Then Illinois because spurgeonryan is representative of that state. And then... hm... Washington.

Michigan is a long shot but possible, but Illinois? He's down by like 13 points...

I think we end up with Clinton at 291, Trump at 247.

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Even if Clinton wins we are going to have to have a serious discussion in this country about how on Earth we let Donald Trump get so close to the White House.

If Clinton wins we're still pretty much a drug addict who nearly died of an overdose and now needs to figure out where their life went wrong so that they never overdose again.

Oh wow.... I guess you don't think highly of either women or people that's not "white". Cool. At least a politician you can trust will uphold the deals the country made with other states, which isn't at all a certainty with Trump. Trump is a loose canon, and that's not someone you ant leading your country, especially if that country is the most powerful one in the world.

What has that to do with anything? I guess you and many others don't realize that much of what Trump said was for marketing purposes, marketing himself. It certainly worked, because he was constantly in the news without having to make much of an effort to get so much coverage. It should be clear that he wasn't really serious about everything he's said, so if somebody would rather vote Trump than Hillary, it doesn't mean that it is because of his comments about women or people who are not white.

The bigger question to ask is how Trump could garner and maintain such a high positive mindshare despite all the things he said. I've only looked briefly into political threads on here, but the most common explanation that is being brought up is that Trump supporters are plain stupid. But isn't it much more likely that the USA aren't that great of a country and many people don't have a great life, and thus a vote against Hillary (who embodies the usual politics) has a higher chance for improvements? And even people who have a good life don't have to be in support of upholding a system that has its fair share of problems. But honestly, I don't know. What the actions of Americans are telling me though, is that things aren't right in the country. So regardless of all the stupid things Trump said, many still prefer him over Clinton. Trump wasn't supposed to become a presidential candidate according to most, if not all, experts on politics; yet here he is and he isn't looking like a pushover who will enable Clinton to win by a landslide.

The situation in the USA isn't comparable to what happened in Europe lately with the rise of the political right where it's easy to identify the cause as well as the solution to put them back in their place. It's a lot more complex, so I wouldn't expect any succinct explanations. But the closest you'd get to that is the following:

"At least a politician you can trust..."
- But what if the people don't trust politicians anymore? Then everything starts to crumble.

What makes you so sure that it's all marketing? And if it IS marketing, he's actively culticating a misogynistic and racist culture in the states, making it more acceptable to be one or both of those. That in and of it self is not only stupid, but dangerous. The man also boost about how he doesn't pay taxes, and likes to grab women by the pussy.

I can totally agree that things aren't right in the states, and I would mostly blame that on the republicans. Blaming Obama for the past 8 years is bullshit when the republican party have had as much of the failure of the government as he has had. USA have become more and more uneducated and and intolerated, and you wanna put the absolutely ignorant Trump in charge of that?! Trump doesn't have any answers to the problems USA is facing since he doesn't understand them. He think he can run the country as he runs his businesses; poorly.

Having a corrupt, possibly rapist, none-tax-paying, racist in charge of a country that doesn't trust its politicians isn't the answer. Hopefully this'll be a wake up call for BOTH political parties.

So how do you interpret this picture?

You'll have to give me a few minutes to summon a thousand words.

Just got back from voting. Get the strong feeling Trump will take my city, in line there only 3 other people who looked to be under 35, almost every person voting was an older white person. Not really surprising to me, as far as signs in people's yards go, my city has been almost all Trump signs for months. For what it's worth, Obama took my city in 2012.

You sure you live in a city and not a town?
