Forums - Nintendo - NES Mini specs; better than 3DS or Wii

This is funny.

A bigger callout is that its running on ARM architecture. I hope this means that out the gate, NS will had full VC library and not need to be built up like WiiU did. If so, then that also supports my thought on NS having full BC for VC and select digital titles from WiiU.

Woah...this is sad... so theoretically...this thing could run 3DS games if Nintendo coded for it?

Edit: Also...I wonder if people will be able to hack this thing. Only time will tell.

If I had to guess, I would say the extra power is to ensure accurate emulation. While many emulators of the NES and SNES today don't take up too many resources, they aren't really as accurate as they could be, especially with regards to timing, as described in this article: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2011/08/accuracy-takes-power-one-mans-3ghz-quest-to-build-a-perfect-snes-emulator/

Also, I would imagine with a more powerful GPU, it would be able to overcome any visual differences that crop up on a more simple emulator. You can see the difference in image quality between the NES mini and the Virtual Console below.

So how long before someone mods the jeebus outta this thing so it takes real NES controllers and has SD card support? I'm predicting 3 months.

I actually think that would help the sales.

If you could use a emulator on it, and run nes,snes,gba/gbc.nds.... games, I think sales of this would go much much higher.

this, so much this.........

for some reason I just feel like playing duck hunt though :D

So now when the WiiU ceases production it will be the most powerful Nintendo console on the market.

So it is less powerful than a $20 PSTV?

What's the mhz of the R16 though so we can work out its actual performance. It looks like it might be the same configuration as a A33 but half the speed or less depending on application. Looks like it can be 120mhz to 1.6ghz but typical applications  533-600mhz.

Lets say it was 200mhz for the mali 400mp2 that's only 3.6 gflops which compares badly to the 11 gflops of the wii.

Also if the cpu was 500mhz thats only 3,800mips which admittedly is about 2.5x the wii cpu.

Certainly possible I think to do both 8bit and 16 bit emulation though at full speed just not snes sfx carts.

They'll need to increase the speed or use a better chip for full speed N64 emulation with 1080p upscaling.

So, it's a weaker RasPI? :D

Where the hell would you even find a PS TV for 20$?
