Forums - Gaming - DLC isn’t about squeezing money from consumers, it’s about “over-delivering”

Dude, Evolve came out LAST YEAR. 2K17 came out LAST MONTH, whether you're aware of it or not.

This isn't over-delivering. It's charging people for content that is either superfluous or should have been included in the base game. If you like 2K games, that's great. Doesn't change the reality of the situation.

I had to look this up, but until Civ 6 came out, the last T2 game I played was Bioshock Infinite.

So I wouldn't say I just blindly love this company. Regardless, their most successful and well known games are examples of doing right by your fans. Focusing on them instead of the context to what he's actually referencing is where we disagree.

Fair enough :)

Ideally.
But some companies see it as an opportunity to under-deliver on release, and extract more cash m0ney from the buyer.

When it's done well, I like the possibilities DLC brings. I wish that was around many years ago when me and my friends were playing Smash Melee for years on end for example.

But wouldn't you say that's evidence of the extravagance of DLC? You and your friends didn't need DLC to prolong your fun with Melee. You played it for years because it was great as is.

What a pile of shit. Some publishers do DLC right but the vast majority of DLC is designed specifically to squeeze more dollars out of the gamer instead of giving more value or value that should of been part of the original game. Also a new trend is starting and it's buying ultimate editions to get access to the game early.

GTA 5 has had the most free DLC this gen

It's true, but depends on the company.

There are evil companies that uses DLC as a cash scam where it's something small or to unlock what's already included in the game.

But then there are real companies that wants to add more giving gamers a lot more playing value, and those are true DLC. Of course they can't give for free because their time is also money.

Agreed, I really like how halo 5 and gears 4 (overwatch does it too.? Idk never played it) where there are microtransactions but they are very easily obtained in game (at least h5) with all free updates. That's a good way to do like shooters I think as long if they don't make it pay 2 win.
