When it's done well, I like the possibilities DLC brings. I wish that was around many years ago when me and my friends were playing Smash Melee for years on end for example.

But wouldn't you say that's evidence of the extravagance of DLC? You and your friends didn't need DLC to prolong your fun with Melee. You played it for years because it was great as is.
