Honestly? no. I doubt Sony has more than 1.5m-2m units sitting on shelves in stores.

I suspect VGC is just undertracking the PS4 by 700k+.

There are alot, and I mean A LOT, of PS4 Pros manufactured and now on ships and warehouses. Easily accounts for 0.7-1M units world-wide more in transit than the usual PS4s at this time. So "shelves" if we include all the ships and intermediate storage areas, easily accounts for over 2M njits.

There are now. But now isn't the end of September.

Use calendars folks

As Rorona noted, those will be counted as this quarter (Oct. - Dec.), not the last one.

so the vgc numbers ar 100% correct

Not likely.

If the VGC figures were correct that would mean 2.7m PS4s either in shops or warehouses and it just seems like way too high a number. Probably much more likely to be half that or even less. So VGC is probably about a million (maybe more) too low.

I agree.

If you know anyone in retail that has been in the business a while, companies have drastically reduced the amount of inventory they keep in stores even leading up to the holidays.  The reason is that they have to pay for the inventory and then pay interest on the $$$ spent to buy the inventory.  Most retailers have moved to the instock on time type system.  That kind of inventory system only keep the amount of instock merchandise equal to what it projects to sell +1 or 2.  If people were to pay attention to non-consumables(electronics/clothes/pens/etc..), they will notice very few items being stocked nowadays.

So, there is no way there are 2+ million PS4's sitting on shelves...  The only thing that they may be accounting for is the minute they leave the warehouse they are considered "shipped" .  Under that secanrio, there could literally be 500,000-800,000 on boats or slow moving freight to large regional warehouse for the holidays.  That kind of transit literally takes 4-8 weeks!

It is near the end of the end....

I will lay a golden egg if GOW and Spiderman comes in 2017.

I agree with you tho, the PS4 hasn't leaked yet. I've said this before, the PS4 peaks when it hits the $199 price point. I think having a PS4pro allows Sony that kinda flexibility to have a $199 PS4 and $299 PS4pro sometime in 2017 and 2018. It just comes down to how aggressive they aim to be.

Glad you have come around to the idea that Sony keeps a low cost PS4 entry model (additional to the Pro version) to reach the group of price sensitive people who wouldn't buy a console for $200+, no matter how good it is.

Earlier that year this "manufacturing nightmare" made "zero sense" to you. ;)

Yh, took a while, but i started seeing the wisdom in it. Especially when considering they have MS and Nintendo to fight with along the way.

About two million in the channel and stock sounds about realistic, which means we probably have it undertracked by about 800k-1 million or so lifetime on the front page. Better tracking than Q1 anyways!

Still think it's only going to do ~50M this year?

It will do more than that. The PS4 probably sold 46+ millions and will sell amost 3 millions on the  USA alone from November to December.

Insane numbers by Sony. Crazy to think they will ship ship 60m by March / April next year. The ps2 days are back baby!!!

It seems like infinitely more info than we get from Xbox.
