“Nintendo Switch is a home gaming system first and foremost”

If you've been keeping up with the Nintendo Switch news, you may have read that former statement from Nintendo earlier this month.
But with the recent rumours about the Switch's relatively weak spec, wouldn't it make sense for Nintendo to market the Switch as a unique hybrid gaming console in 2017? I understand why they are not doing it this fall when Pokemon Sun/Moon for the 3DS is releasing in November. They're cautious that saying the Switch is a hybrid will make it seem like the 3DS's replacement next year which will can potentially limit Sun/Moon's sales.
But after this year, what other huge 3DS games does Nintendo have to offer? And will their sales even decrease if the Switch is seen as a successor to the 3DS?
There's also the issue that Nintendo handhelds have always sold more than their home consoles. Is it wise to keep marketing the Switch as the home console then? And with the PS4 Pro and Scorpio on the horizon, it makes the Switch seem like another Nintendo home console that is vastly underpowered when it could have been seen as a modern hybrid with relatievely impressive specs for a dedicated handheld console.
