It is absolutely insane the level of polygonal detail this game pushed at 60fps. And virtually locked at 60.

Damn right. Seeing that wire frame breakdown of the scene geometry is crazy impressive considering this is a 14 year old Gamecube game running at a practically locked 60fps.

I kinda wished they'd covered Prime 2 and 3 as well, as those games were also amazing feats of engineering for their hardware. I miss the days when Retro were kings at pushing the graphical envelope. :(

It was craycray back then

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Pretty impressive, Metroid prime is one of the best games of all time and a personal favorite of mine.

Metroid Prime certainly looks nice, but its sequel is where the Gamecube truly shines brightest. Just look at this game running on a Dolphin Emulator. Nintendo could release this game with nothing but a resolution change to 1080P and it would still look like a modern and beautiful game. Eat your heart out Twilight Princess and even Wind Waker, you got nothing on this:

Yeah, as good as Prime looks, Prime 2 is a clear step up, and a definite competitor for the title of best Gamecube graphics.

Prime 3 is an even bigger step again, but it had the benefit of stronger hardware.

Yeah, Metroid Prime 3 blows most PS3 games out of the water in HD.

Idk about you guys but I still love its look.

It's really amazing that despite the troubled development cycle, the game managed to perform and look as good as good as it does. Definitely one of my GOATs.

Yeah, I love how the production of the game itself is such an interesting story; the 3D debut of a venerable series, made by an unproven studio in the midst of a chaotic miss of mismanagement, staff departures, project cancellations and embezzlement, and yet somehow it still emerged as a shining gem. It's like the Ugly Duckling of video games. XD

It's funny to think that reception before the release wasn't all that great either and honestly I can't blame them, I probably would have had my doubts too. Also while great games with chaotic development cycles aren't all that uncommon (Halo 2, Mega Man 3, or even Metroid Prime 2, etc.) what sets Metroid Prime apart is that it does not feel like a rushed game in the slightest, in fact it's very polished and very well made in practically every department.

Those 80-100 hour work weeks would have been insane but they somehow made it happen.
