Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Switch Press conference: January 12 2017 in Tokyo

I prefer digital events but whatever, as long as we finally get all the information I'm good.

Guys...This is Nintendo first press conference since E3 2012...

Wow, it has been that long. All eyes will be on them so they can't disappoint. They have to hit hard. They have to have Zelda at launch. If that is announced during the presentation, Switch will be in a great position. And that's the bare minimum I think.

If Emily Rogers is correct, NX should be loaded when it comes to software, similar to the SNES days in fact. I can't wait to see what they announce. It's amazing that they're doing a stand alone conference, this tells me that they think they have enough to show on their own, without E3. Hopefully...

I wanna know when the American one is. :(

It will probably take place in Tokyo only with big media/influencers making their way eastward for the event.  So people like Polygon, IGN, GameXplain, etc. will most likely be present. We'll just have to watch the live stream, it's kind of like Space World now that I think about it.

Wait, seriously?

That's a long wait before any significant info is released and very little time before launch. My guess is that it's to minimize negativity once the bad news start rolling in.

Not exactly.  They did an event in like August or September of 2012 in NYC where the Wii U's launch lineup was playable, and they announced Bayonetta 2.  It was a minor thing, and I only remember it cause I was there.

You didn't factor how it would have a better spotlight after christmas than before?

You would choose to think negatively of any situation involving Nintendo, but I guess there is nothing really wrong with that. Though as others have already said, I think it's far more likely that they're avoiding having to compete with the holiday buzz and advertising when they have all the time and attention to themselves. Surely you can agree that this makes a lot of sense.

Welp, this will take awhile.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

You gotta admit that it would minimize negative press. The only way it could do any better would be if they found a way to launch it that same day. And its not like console makers didn't do reveals to lower the impact of a rival. Sony did it to MS when they did their reveal. MS even sent workers to Best Buy to counter Wii U when they were doing their E3 at Best Buy event. Nintendo could have just as easily did this with Switch this holiday season. Instead they decided to wait. I'm thinking because they are not confident in their product.
