Forums - Gaming - Titanfall 2 isn't native 4K on PS4 Pro and it doesn't sound like many games will be

This goes directly against what Sony said about "PS4 Neo focused on 4k gaming". I guess they should have said they'll have "upscaled 4k games and high compression 4k streaming to fill that content".

well lets be honest here.... the PS4pro is as much a 4k console as the XB1 was a 1080p console.

Yeah, no. There are loads of 1080p games on Xbone. As time has went on and devs learn tricks for the console it's a far cry from what it was at launch. Time won't allow devs to suddenly start pumping out native 4k games on PS4P.

Not a surprise at all, we have known for awhile that the ps4 pro just is not powerful enough for true 4k.

If the checkerboard rendering is as great as early impressions are suggesting, I don't even see how this could be an issue. 1080p/ 60 FPS at ultra settings isn't even standard on consoles yet. Why rush into native 4K, and then basically burnout when the games look like ass. A turd in 4K is still a turd.

True 4k - is that a new term?

I really wouldn't say loads... in 2015 games like Dying Light, Mortal Kombat X, Witcher 3, Batman Arkham Knight, Need For Speed 2015, MGS V Phantom Pain, Just Cause 3 were all 900p on Xbox One and 1080p on PS4. This year big games like Far Cry Primal, F1 2016, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, Mafia 3, Dark Souls 3 were all 900p on Xbox One and 1080p on PS4. Majority of AAA games are still 900p on Xbox One. Please do more reasearch. Most games that run 1080p on Xbox Ones are last gen remasters and Indie games.

You can name a lot of games that are not in 1080p but LudicrousSpeed statement is still right and even if some of those games are remasters or indies why should those games not accounted for?

While strictly speaking his statement is incorrect, if the checkerboard process is as effective as DF have implied, i'd argue the statement is at least technically true. The X1 hits 1080p more frequently than the Pro is likely to hit a native 4k, but the Pro will be missing by less.

Hmmm, this is interesting.

All ill say is this, the majority of the AAA games released from 2013 till now across platforms (go on, take the time to filter through them) have ran at 900p on the XB1.

Now you can dispute that all you want, but then there is this..... can you show me a single ad or marketing material that MS has said that their console is mostly a 900p console?

Anyways, none of this is relevant. My point is that pseudo 4k which is much betterthan even 1440p is good enough for living room use. 1080p is even good enough. Pseudo 4k or native 4k is just overkill.

But the way people talk about the PS4pro"s pseudo 4k will have you think that even 1080p gaming is an atrocity or shame today, when the sad thing is that the majority of those making those claims are currently or have been just ok with their 900p games.

This is just a wash, rinse, repeat of the last few generations arguments.

First it was the Xbox's slight power and occasional resolution differential over the PS2, then it was all about the huge difference a here-and-there resolution difference would make to the PS3's library over the 360's, more recently its been about how 1-200 extra horizontal lines of resolution makes the PS4 enormously more powerful than the Xbox One.

The reasons this is getting more attention than usual are mainly two fold:

1. Its been a long time since Sony fans have faced being on the losing end of a resolution/most powerful console debate (largely due to Sony's admirable commitment (in my opinion) to powerful and high quality hardware) and they are not taking it very well, reversing course on the importance of resolution etc.

2. Its been a long time since Xbox fans faced being on the winning end of a resolution/most powerful console debate, (largely due to the stupid decision to spend hardware budget on Kinect) and some of them are failing to be the bigger person and having too much fun with it.

Ironically, the jump to 4k resolution could be the first major change in visual acuity seen in consoles since the switch to 'high def,' if Microsoft pulls it off correctly. As Zekkyou has already noted, there are a range of reasons why that is not entirely likely.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

This whole topic is funny. Again this whole "resolution" topic is typical of the PS4 apologists. When the PS4pro will produce a marginally less resolution than the Scorpio, it is now insignificant and doesn't matter. When the original XB1 produced a marginally less resolution that the PS4, it was really significant.

In both cases it is just funny.

It is near the end of the end....
