Skyrim PS4 mods: size limit confirmed

The publisher confirmed during an online FAQ that PS4 users will have approximately 1GB of space to play around with mod support in the fantasy-RPG; significantly smaller than the Xbox One edition, which offers a meatier 5GB of space.

The disparity between both versions in terms of mod space is evident in Fallout 4 to boot, with the PS4 version offering just 900MB compared to the Xbox One’s 2GB. However, the PS4 version of Skyrim is not allowing mods with external assets, so the space limitation may not be too big of a deal.

Sony was initially blocking Skyrim mods and Fallout 4 mods, although thankfully the issue has since been resolved. Nonetheless, the feature has been a long time coming, having endured months of delays while Xbox One and PC owners have been enjoying the benefits of custom content for Fallout 4.

Why even bother.

Oh, I'm sure they can still make interesting tweaks to the game on PS4.

Its just gonna be less fun than what's happening on Xbox.

This isn't a bit more of an issue than on Xbox One. Because of the lack of external assets, mods don't need even nearly as much space as on Xbox One. The title of this thread is thus quite misleading (technically true, but it omits the other side of the truth).

So that means I can't change my character to for example look like Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII?

If so, that sucks. And I'll be getting this for PC instead after all.
I'll get it for free anyway since I own all the DLC on Steam so I guess it's for the best.
Still, I'd prefer to play it on console, but that's a deal breaker for me.

This is exactly what it means. I don't think even very creative use of the existing assets is going to make your character look like Lightning, or any other arbitrary character. It'll be good on PC anyway, because you'll have access to more mods, and you can still play with a controller if that's your thing. You can also play it on your TV if you either hook up your PC to your TV or use Steam's In-Home Streaming (e.g. via Steam Link). Of course if you don't have it set up like that all the time, it's a bit of a hassle so might not be a viable option.

I do find this mod entertaining since I was a Macho Man fan back in the day.  But just speaking for myself, not having mods period wouldn't be much of an issue for me.  When a game developer creates a world (such as Skyrim) I want to experience that world the way it was intended.  But also let me be clear that the PC version and to a lesser degree the Xbox One version of Skyrim will give you potentially added valve because of the options of their modes.  So I'm not downplaying the mods issue with the PS4 version by any means because having more options are usually better, and I'm not condoning the "better than nothing" mindframe.  I just think issues such as this can be and has been blown out of proportion.

I think the mods are just extra value in the long run.

I'm sure most people playing through the game want to do so without game changing mods.

I hope you mean 'game changing' in a pretty serious way, because I bet the majority of players on PC used mods on PC from the beginning (or almost beginning). If nothing else, almost everyone on PC used SkyUI to fix the horrendous stock UI.
