500k for the ps3?!?
But in all seriousness, those numbers are too far apart. Either the 360 will sell a lot more or the ps3 will sell a lot less, or a combination of both.

I agree with Pachter on some things here.
1) I expect GTA IV to push many PS2 gamers into buying a next gen console.
2) The PS3 will likely benefit far more from this than the 360.

Or the VGC Mario Kart Wii GP American League!
Or the VGC Halo 3 American League!
Or the VGC Call Of Duty PS3 League!
Will the buyout of the DLC by microsoft be seen as evening the playing field instead of a distinct advantage much the same way their Europe price cut served as a source to soften the blow of increasing PS3 sales?
Is it truly an overall advantage for Sony to have GTAIV being released since all previous PS2 owners looking to step into the current gen now have a decision to make, like Pachter suggests?
I believe it is. But only time will tell.

1) I'm going by VGChartz data, not NPD.
2) I'm talking about march, not february.
@ Chrizum
Pachter like Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony will use NPD figures as being of the most importance. So far according to VGChartz the 360 outsold the PS3 for every month in the US for 2008, but according to the NPD it's the other way around.
Similar for the UK, VGChartz predicted trends of the 360 outselling the PS3, also after corrections VGChartz expected 360 sales to top PS3 sales. According to Chart Track this isn't true the PS3 has been outselling the 360 constantly in 2008 and christmas 2007 was really close (that's why the website did a major correction later on, to reflect the 1 million milestone for the PS3 achieved in the UK a while ago). Also for Australia according to Sony end user figures based on GfK tracking combined with uncounted Bravia deals PS3 sales were significantly higher than reported by VGChartz. This website cannot rival professional tracking companies, the reported figures are interesting but won't be used above paid for expert data.
i think think the people that had a ps2 already made the jump too the 360 or ps3 or wii
i had about 4 or 5 ps2 im sure alot of people rebought the slim and bout a 2th fat when the 1st fat broke or sumthing
alot of the ps2 gamers are kids fromt he late 80s and early 90s people from the sness era thay are mostlike likely busy whit ther kids now and there kids are waay too young too play ps3 or xbox lol so once there kids grow up a few more years
my point is that next gen will be the best gen ever the 2th generation of people will be of gameing age! and there parents will know that games dont kill people games stop you from killing people and drinking/drufs.....ok maby not drinking!
mgs4 will sell 2.4m week 1

Yes, I'm not defending patcher, but PS3 has changed it's relative market position since that time in the US as evidenced by sales on NPD and this site. Before, it was the rejected child and now it's within margin of error weekly within 360.
I think it might be a tie. Most people I know that do GTA aren't so concerned about extra missions as they just want to do terrible things out in the streets. It will have some influence, but not all. I think it's more of a competition between those that will get the 360 for much cheaper to play the game or those that will finally buy in to the PS3 for the future titles.
Another factor is how much the media is promoting the PS3 over the 360 this year for the upcoming games and Blu-ray, where last year they were crucifying the PS3, along with store employees. The media has alot of influence over people's choice and it's showing. That may be one reason that Europe didn't have a good reception to the 360 pricecut.
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY." --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

23+17+11 = about 51 million current gen consoles sold so far, acording to vgc.
ps2 sold at least 110 million units (and then you have got to consider the other last gen consoles, xbox and gc). unless you're claiming that every single ps2 owner has had more than one ps2, that statement is painfully incorrect....which it is.
