Forums - Sales Discussion - Blu-ray killing hddvd in Europe.

It's damn funny how people hate blu-ray no matter what... It's obviously a better choice for movies. Is here anyone who prefers HDDVD + Standard DVD over one Blu-Ray disc. Such combination is common and it clearly shows HDDVD is too small. Many years ago I played Mortal Kombat 2 on Amiga 600 (4 x 3'5" FD IIRC) and I don't like to shift disc anymore. Lets forget for a while who manufacture this two formats...

I think I now hate Blu-Ray just because Larry is such a staunch supporter of the format.

you hate BD because you own an x360....which is the big loser all around the world except NA.

BTW did you trash your HD-DVD add-on?

do it and buy the ps3 so that you could watch all the fab movies including pirates 1&2 ,casino royale etc.

The fact is that it doesnt even matter right now which player is winning. The only time it will become important is when the players go sub $200US and mainstream consumers start buying them rather than technology elitists. Blue3, Larry you guys are really the ones with the least right of anybody to talk about fanboyism. Its just hypocritical.

The reason bluray will not win is because bluray fans don't buy the amount of movies as the hddvd fans do. Hddvd owners have an average of 30+ movies compared to bluray 10+ movies, also sales of actual hddvd players outsell bluray players 3 to 1 in America. Sony forced millions of gamers into bluray with the PS3 and they buy more games than movies that is why they only have around 55% of the hd market. People that have hddvd players are movie buffs and bought hddvd because it offers the same audio & video capabilities of bluray at about half the price. The only advantage the bluray technology has is that it holds 50gb to hddvd 30gb. Within a year hddvd will have a disk that holds 51gb so they will be more or less equal except in price where hddvd is the clear winner. I'm sure bluray will come out with a new disk that holds more but really why would you need more than 50gb for a movie. People that have or want a PS3 need to stop posting on the hd format war because they don't really know what they are talking about they just want to say Sony is winning at something.

yahh YOU know what you are talking about right.

br fans dont buy enouth movies ROLF thats why Casino Royal is the first HD move to break 100k sold ?

Blu-ray is winning the HD format war, the format that launched first is now getting owned in sales.

Casino Royal shipped 100k copies it has yet to sell that many, and 55% isn't owning the sales.

Funny thing is the same people claiming that Blu-ray is owning the market are the same people who say the PSP are PS3 are in good shape, even though the PSP and PS3 have much lower market shares than HD-DVD.

HD DVD was launched 3 months before the launch of ps3 and the standalone BD players.

It is 57% at the moment.

But it is 100% in Australia and Japan

+

80+% in Europe.

Pirates 1&2 + 5 other mega BD titles are coming out tomorrow.

Expect that 57% to become a 90% by the end of the year.

There is an explanation for these. First of all PSP and PS3 have more or less full software support. Almost every third party developer provide games for these systems. Despite lower sales situation is still good. HDDVD has no such privilege. It's obviously inferior to Blu-Ray AND has no support in Hollywood. Everyone can spin it off but that's the fact. Blu-Ray is winning and it's good for customers. Bigger potential means less change in near future.

psp is doing a good job all over the world.

even last month it went on to beat x360.

ps3 is beating x360 all over the world except NA.

However you know it even better than i do that by the end of the year ....its ps3 all over again.

psp beats x360 all around the world by big margins.

PSP has sold 21+ m units.

ps3 has sold 3.3 m but that would ofcourse become 10+ m by the end of the year.

Ah, leave it to Larry to post a bunch of random pseudo-facts with no verification.
