Yes, I understand that there are games that borrow elements from others, but this looks to take the whole MC aspect to it, down to its blocky appearance. This isn't like platformers being similar, or FPSs using guns. The look and feel is very much that of MC.

Aside from minecraft mods that may exist that I haven't seen - DQ builders does many, many things better. Infact the only thing they have in common is building blocks.

The characters aren't blocks. The enemies aren't blocks. The food, the weapons, the spike traps, benches, furniture - basically everything but the basic building blocks - aren't blocks.

There are tutorials and lists of how to make things. It isn't guess work or googling. You find reciples and blueprints. How do I build a chair? Oh it is these pieces at a forge. Simple.

As your town grows people show up. They give you different quests. You level up, you get more hit points, and defense. The rooms do different things. The town people actually do things for you. On top of defending you from monsters, they build items and food.

There is a story mode, and bosses. This is all stuff I've experienced in only chapter 1.

That's good to hear. The town building sounds like a fun new mechanic that makes town building fun. And everything not looking like blocks gives it a better presentation.

Uninformed posts like these should be a bannable offense by the mods, seriously. If you had even made the slightest effort to learn more about the game you'd know it's nothing like Minecraft. No it's essentials are nothing like MC. The core game is a rpg with main story and quests, the building elements feel like the classics like Suikoden and Dark Cloud. But here you are giving your 2 cents on something you know nothing about. What was the wise old adage? Don't judge a book by its cover.

Seriously worst post of the day.

Out of curiosity, do you believe this game would have been developed if Minecraft wasn't so popular? It seems to me like it was common knowledge that this game incorporated elements from MC...and so I find it odd that the two are being treated as so independent now.

Fun game I'm really enjoying it Also even though I do disagree with you I do find Turkish WILDLY over the line. That was insane to come in so aggressive for no real reason.

Yeah, that's fair enough. The reason I would not play this game wouldn't be that it's like minecraft. Actually, I found playing MC on console felt sluggish to play on compared to PC. How does the block placing and movement feel here?

Wow, this is the harshest comment I've gotten from someone. I think this is something new for me, and I kinda appreciate that. Anyways, I have seen a fair amount of gameplay and screenshots, and I have played a lot of MC, so I know how MC plays, and looking at this game, it looks like that. If you take out the DQ characters and look at it, it looks quite a bit like MC and I don't think can be denied. I mean, don't forget, the title of the game is Dragon Quest BUILDERS. The major draw of the game is that part. Sure, there are other elements to add to the MC formula, but at its core, it borrows a lot from it. It looks less like a new game building on the MC concept, and more so like MC with DQ characters. If it's fun, that's great, but when it's going with something that is massively successful, it looks to me like it's riding on the success of that, and I cannot applaud anyone who does that.

You don't have to agree with me, though.

Yeah it definitely looks like MC on the first hand, however never was a game's looks as deceiving as this one. One is literally lego, the other is an rpg, dressed as lego.

I'm sorry for sounding harsh, I got out of the bed on the wrong side.

It is a little annoying sure. You law blocks with square. L1 "raises" the reticule up one. R1 "lowers" it. You aren't allowed to place them in mid air so have to have something under or to the side of them.

The angle gets a little annoying some times. You have to kind zoom in and move the camera around so you can see your place better. You realize "oh I need to step up once" or "oh there is no step there, so I need to make one".

Then again that may just me. I have problems with depth. I need to move the camera around to see that I am two squares off not one. So I need to put one "down" before I can put another one. LIttle things here and there. Nothing at all frustrating enough to make me even pause though.

In general it is pretty easy though.  You can also build "coverings" that transform the bricks. So if you build your entire town out of dirt, later you can buy stone coverings that when you use them turn sections into stone. So you don't have to re-build everytime a new item is found.

It sounds a little confusing reading it, but I figure playing the game things flow better after getting used to the controls. That covering mechanic sounds pretty handy as well. I remember having to change blocks in MC was a bit of a tiring experience.  If there is a demo on the Vita, I can give that a shot.

You are in luck, there IS a demo.  You should go grab that. My only issue with ths game is that you "remove" things the same way you attack things. Swinging a weapon.

So when attacking a monster I'm always "removing" anything around me. So if I'm fighting next to my base - I'm also attacking my base. It is the same for removing things. When trying to remove one item you have to be careful or your sword hits multiple things.

You never lose anything though. Anything you destroy you can pick up and put back down.

Alright then, I'll give the demo a shot then. And that issue with breaking things sounds like a familiar and relateable thing I've had before, haha.

No problem. Apology accepted : )
