Maybe it is. But the lack of good software will be why it will slow down. They can anounce some actually good games in the next 2 gameshows this year that are not just tech demos and sales might actually rise.

Yeah, Sony should have learned that a gaming HW needs games to go with it. I'd be really surprised to see if the attach rate were a lot more than 10% of en PS4 install base. Really, really surprised. Maybe 15%, yeah, but not more than that

Thats still potentially like 11-17m units or more, by the end of the gen.

Which will be alot more than most others that sell VR headsets.

Most decent VR games, will have PSVR versions of the game sold too, simply because its the biggest market for it.

It also means if you want to have a go at VR gameing, its your safest bet.

Look at the Wii U, and its sales.

It still has decent games, with that amount of VR headsets out there, multiplat VR games that are pretty cool, could be made and supported. Basically if its "big" enough to sustain a new market for gameing, its not a fad.

Economics of scale could kick in, if Sony are makeing enough of them.
Compaired to the others. If they could lower the price even 50$ more than it currently is, I think that would help sales.

Entry price is a very real barrier for VR.
399$ is still alot to pay for VR.

You're talking about dropping prices already?! You're obsessed, obessed I say.

The PS5 Exists.

I think it's almost useless to say "by the end of this gen" any longer; when does a new gen begin and the old one finish? PS4pro and XboxScorpio are mid gen consoles, gen 8.5 if you like, and who's to say that this trend won't sinply continue? But let's say (for arguments sake) that there will be a proper PS5 in like 3 years (maybe 4); I think the install base will be arond... 5-7 million VR headsets maybe. I'm not actually sure we should use the current PS4 install base as a measurement here; that console is a bit too weak to handle VR properly, that's why we got the Pro. I'm thinking that PSVR will be around 10-15% of the Pro install base at the end of this gen.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

The faster they build a viable and sustainable market for VR games, the more games worth playing there will be, and the more units will be sold.

Instead of looking to profit off the hardware they should invest in makeing sure it takes off.

This VR thing isnt a fad, and its not about short term profits.

PS5,PS6 ect will all have VR, if it takes off.

Years and years of profiting, but it requires that Sony sets them selves up as the "defacto" leader of the pack when it comes to VR experiances.

VR will live and die with PlayStation. I don't think it will ever be beyond a gimmick unless Sony does things to make it accessible to everyone. Maybe force PSVR integration with PS5 like MS tried with Kinect. Or make it so it can be used with PC. In the future it might need to be its own standalone device that doesn't need a PlayStation. It would sell millions if all you needed was PSVR by itself.

That's good then

Will see how well it does long term

"We know from the data we have from pre-orders that the interest we have is significant," Ryan said in a TV interview, adding that at launch, sales will be in the "many hundreds of thousands".

PlayStation VR could sell around 2.6 million units this year, according to SuperData research. Sony is a strong position given that it already has an install base of over 40 million PlayStation 4 consoles, so even a small take-up of the VR headset could bring in additional revenues for the gaming unit.

But with demand strong, Sony will need to keep up with strong production and supply, something that has been taken into account.

"We know that the replenishment cycle is a good one, production is going exactly as we anticipated. We have made decisions to further increase capacity at the back end of 2016 and into 2017, so there are going to be a lot of PlayStation VRs around the world, whether that's enough to satisfy the demands of the market, we'll see," Ryan told CNBC.

So then my prediction was correct.  Sony would dominate the market in a single day.  It would only need to sell about 300k to take a 50% cut of the marketshare.  So anything over that means Sony has PacMan like market share in one day.

VR will not die and neither will PlayStation.

Anyway... you can bet your ass that PSVR will be coming to PC.  The Processing unit connects to the PlayStation using normal regular cables.  The only caveat is how to work the camera into the equation.

It all depends on reactions of early adopters and reaction from youtubers now. And the reviews from gaming websites.
So far it seems nice, I will buy it when the brazilian importers realize that 1 thousand dollars is insanity.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.
