Phil Spencer Happy With Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Progress

by Mike Guarino on October 13, 2016

In terms of backwards compatibility support for Xbox 360 games on Xbox One, Xbox fans have been able to look forward to a new batch of games with the support very frequently. There’s now over 250 Xbox 360 games that can be played on Xbox One, and the overall amount of hours that gamers have spent playing Xbox 360 games on Xbox One is truly impressive.

However, there are still some big games that have yet to receive the backwards compatibility support, with one of them being Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Xbox boss Phil Spencer was recently asked by a fan on Twitter when the game would be getting the support, to which he replied with “I like the progress on [backwards compatibility]. We’d like to have all and work on [third-party] games is always a partnership with publisher.”

So while he didn’t address when (or if) Black Ops 2 would be getting backwards compatibility support at all, seeing as other earlier games in the series have gotten the support it is likely more a matter of when rather than if. Both Call of Duty 3 and Call of Duty: World At War got the support last month, so it wouldn’t surprise me if the Black Ops 2 support was on the horizon.

This week saw 4 more games get backwards compatibility support, though they were definitely less popular games compared to other recent releases. You can learn more about them by clicking right here.

Especially after the recent changes they made to their magic, it's even more surprising how they do that stuff.
Amazing work on a technical level, that's for sure. And it's also free if you already own the game.

The Games with gold X360 games to work with Xbox one and a steady line of them is just a huge win for anyone that owns a Xbox, and the discs also work, just wow. Great service, I think everybody is happy with the progress :)

Easily one of the X1's best features for anyone coming into the Generation a bit late who would have had an X360, instantly allows you to get back to playing the games you love and some of them even have nice boosts to frame rate in places.

And yeah... it's a free feature, amazing.

Its easily the most consumer friendly thing that has happened this generation. MS really knocked it out of the park with 360 BC. It was one of the main reasons I bought a Xbox One S. Kudos MS.

Phil should be happy. The gamers are ecstatic about the service. It's truly a marvel, in my opinion.

I feel like he can be, they did a pretty good job.

Even though I have a 360 right beside my Xbox One consoles, I still prefer playing my old games on the new hardware. They just feel "better" on Xbox One.

There's a difference though. Even if I don't have those discs, they usually give a option for a digital purchase. There's only a few Wii games that are available digitally on Wii U.
