Detroit: Become Human Director David Cage Talks About the Long and Painful Process of Writing His Games

During a broadcast from DICE Summit 2017, Quantic Dream founder and Detroit: Become Human Director David Cage talked about writing his games, revealing why coming up with the story for his latest title took a really long time.

Cage explains that a few years ago, games were just focused on mechanics, and they were just about testing your skills, but the more time passes, the more gamers need a reason to fight or shoot, and the story is that reason. In fact, according to Cage, games with a good story and good narrative in general are the ones with the highest completion rate, as people want to know what is going to happen and they want to see the end of the story. That keeps them playing.

Cage then went on to mention that writing stories the way he does it, takes a “crazy amount of time,” at least eighteen months, and Detroit: Become Human actually took “Much more than that.”

According to Cage, it’s an incredibly long and even painful process. When you’re a writer you need to be inspired, and to have an instinct that results in the story you have to tell. While he has that instinct, he then starts thinking about all the combinations and variations, the gameplay, and the consequences of everything. That’s when writing becomes a puzzle. At that point, he needs to connect things. He doesn’t want to make compromises on the story and gameplay, so he needs to find a way in which they can talk to each other in a way that is consistent, blending nicely.

Personally, I enjoyed both their PS3 games, Heavy Rain and Beyond 2 Souls, quite a bit. They weren't perfect and had plenty of flaws sure, but they felt both unique and interesting to me. Also, enjoyed the characters in both stories and the performance from their voice actors helped with that. So, I'm definetly excited to play through Detroit.

So guys finished Onimusha 2 going right to Onimusha 3

and Persona 4 Golden was fantastic can't wait for Persona 5, got the Bad ending 3, normal ending and true ending

Just got the plat for Gravity Rush 2.

While I still think GR1 was overall better, the last chapter of GR2 was amazing, and the ending was just beautiful.

Only thing that stops me from calling GR2 a masterpiece is the somewhat abundant amount of stupid sidequests, and the absurd grinding needed to get the plat.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

i should get horizon in 2 hours. a place is going to deliver it to my place. he said it would take two hours, lets hope its true lol.

got Horizon yesterday, played it for about 1.5 hours or so.

my spoiler free first impressions.

intro is good, does a good job to set up the story and characters, mainly Aloy of course. the intro is not on the same level as TLoU or GoW3, but its on the better side of into's of video games.

i played till the part where i can start to explore the open world, then went around the world looking for stuff and thing, i found a side quests and did it. the side quest its self was good, it wasnt really long, it wasnt that amazing either, but they obviously put effort into it and tried to make it have a story line.

what i like about side quests when they are done right, is that they try give you more information or just a feel of the world and its culture, even if its a small side quest like the one i played, it still does a job in connecting you more to the universe, which is something i felt this one did. dont get me wrong, this isnt like the ice giant side quest in The Witcher 3 for example. its a relatively small one, but it certainly isnt a mindless fetch quest.

the gameplay is tight, it feels a bit more floaty than i would like, i like grounded and weighted gameplay. but overall the gameplay is pretty good. the bow and arrow aiming is fantastic and one of the best bow and arrow shooting i played in games. the game just feels very smooth and feels great to play. i have it on hard difficulty, i might switch it up to very hard if i feel things arent challenging enough.

the game sets up the story nicely, there are a lot of quests i am interested in learning, and i want to know the world and lore, whats going on and why things happened to the characters. Aloy is great, i am liking her so far.

animations are fantastic, very smooth and well done. facial animations are a hit and miss sometimes. sometimes rough, the other times done pretty good. but dont expect uncharted level of facial animations. so far its witcher 3 level of facial animations.

graphics are fantastic, but to those who say its better than UC4 are kidding them selfs. it looks really great, but UC4 just has it beat (as it has everything else beat).id say graphics are between TW3 and UC4. of course im still in the first area, but so far thats how it looks like. i would say its the best looking open world game i played easily.

the music and audio are great,  im really diggint the music as well, sounds amazing, as well as the voice acting, the voice acting is actually pretty great so far.

cant wait to play this more... so much to do and explore :D

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2017/02/28/ps-plus-bundle-buy-1-year-of-plus-get-3-additional-months-of-plus-and-showtime/

Still have a few months on my subscription, but for those extra 3 months I'll do it. It's a good thing the months stack up together.

Played like 10 hours of horizon today. This game is amazing. I love the story so far. Some pretty cool side quests too.
Even climbing "the tower" felt great. My heart was racing the moment I saw the tallneck.
Gameplay is good, so good. A while ago I was ambushed by a toothsaber and some watchers. During the fight I got like 4 more scrappers on me, barely made it out alive, it was amazing.

I don´t know what people are doing if they got a ps4 and don´t get horizon. Gotta go sleep now, damn work tomorrow.

crafting resources used for fast travel kits?

sounds really weird
