The PS5 Exists.

How will this benefit the Xbox? I mean, I have VLC on my PC but besides using it to watch some media does it do something else?

It gives XBO one of the most advanced and well maintained media playback apps on the market. Now you are not locked into only the codecs Microsoft supports, which is a great thing. Basically you should be able to look at all content in any format now on XBO.
This is a huge step in the right direction for consoles. I would also like to see Firefox come out to the consoles to help offer a much better Web Browsing experience. Consoles need to be more and more versitle if they want to survive against Smart TV, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Cable Boxes, PC, and more. The competition is real, and Sony and Microsoft need to keep innovating and advancing their platforms now, to make sure they don't get over run in the future.
At the end of the day, we don't need the Home gaming mmarket to go the way of mobile. I don't want two companies that piss on gamers running home gaming into the ground. We need MS, Sony, and Nintendo to be strong at home.
Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Got it! That's good news then! I'll see if I can save some videos I have from my PC to the Xbox One. Thanks!
