Resident Evil 7 PSVR is exclusive to PS4 for one year

Those of you who want to play Resident Evil 7 in VR will have to do so on PS4; it's either that, or wait an entire year.

By Michael Harradence on 3 October 2016

Sony has revealed via a promotional Facebook image that Resident Evil 7: biohazard’s VR mode will be exclusive to PlayStation 4 users for a period of 12 months. In other words, you won’t be able to play it in VR on any other format until at least January 2018.

Resident Evil 7 PSVR mode allows gamers to play through the entirety of Capcom’s upcoming survival horror sequel using Sony’s virtual reality headset, which adds a whole new dimension of immersion to the proceedings. We’ve tried it already, and suffice to say, the atmosphere afforded by PSVR is palpable.

Resident Evil 7 demo update introduces new items and rooms

Capcom recently updated its Beginning Hour demo for Resident Evil 7, which introduces a number of fresh content, such as new items and a brand new room to explore. It even gives us a use for the mysterious dummy finger, though it’s still not possible to actually escape the farmhouse without getting KO’d by Jack Baker.

Resident Evil 7 is due out on PS4, PC, and Xbox One on January 24, 2017. The game takes place some years after the events of Resident Evil 6, and sees players controlling fresh-faced protagonist Ethan as he searches for his missing wife on a sprawling plantation mansion in Louisiana. The game also takes place entirely from a first-person perspective.

Capcom is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Resident Evil throughout 2016, and has already marked the occasion by releasing PS4 and Xbox One versions of Resident Evil 4-6. Beyond Resi 7, the studio is also working on a full-fledged remake of 1998’s seminal Resident Evil 2, although we’ve yet to see anything on the game.

So will I be able to play RE7 PSVR on Xbox One in 2018??

Well that's good for people who don't own a PS4. I'm excited for this game.

I despise exclusivity deals as consumer but for Sony it was a good move. The game will be a hit with Youtubers and most would probably play it on Vive or Oculus with a simultaneous release but now most will play it with PSVR.

Great, so the one exciting VR game gets locked behind timed exclusive BS. I really shouldn't have expected more from Capcom.

I honestly wonder went into convincing Capcom to make this a 1 year exclusive with Sony.  And please don't say "money-hat" because I think I might be more than that.  It seems to me that VR finally has it's best shot in becoming viable to the general consumer.  So maybe for now Capcom want to just concentrate on one platform to ensure its success with RE.  "Testing the waters" with one platform you might say.

Yes if you have a Xbox Scorpio and a Occlus rift, and buy RE7.... you can probably play it in VR by that time.

so exclusivity will end just in time for scorpio's release??

seems like a waste of money on sony's part. no point in paying to keep it off PC imo and it was a defacto exclusive in the console space since it is the only console that can do VR.

BOOM! this is why as a potential vr customer I'll most likely choose the psvr. It just gets the best AAA and AA games here and now.

Don't eally understand your point of view here.  RE7 is a big game.  Easily the most well know game on the platform (outside of Minecraft) and the game is AAA.  Batman and Starwars are cool but this is the biggest full game release and one of the first full sized AAA games in VR...  For the first week YouTube will be captivated by streamers looking their shit in VR.  Thats a full year.  Then if it comes to Scorpio thats fine but don't expect people to wait.
