NXT UK Takeover Blackpool is on.

And yeah, I think WWE main programming generally jumps between 9/10 shows in the January to April period, and good stuff in the August/September period, and then down to 4/10 shows for much of the rest of the year. Huge swings in quality. Although, luckily they have stuff like NXT which is 9/10 to 10/10 year round. Of course, this is 2018, 2019 could be completely different! 1999 followed that same general pattern, but 2000 was probably at its strongest between April to September, with the earlier part of the year a bit of a mixed bag (despite having a fantastic RR2000 PPV).

British strong-style: Tyler Bate, Trent Seven, and Pete Dunne are the ones to watch out in 2019, IMO - they had an awesome 2018, but not a lot of people in the US, outside the NXT fanbase, know about them. They also perform on NXT UK. I honestly don't see them going up to the main roster for anything more than a visit anytime soon due to how important they are and how well their style to the NXT brands; they all have ridiculous strength and athleticism, and wrestle a stiff and fast-paced style that works well in NXT - but isn't always as well appreciated in main roster matches (I'd say Benoit and Angle were exceptions).

Also, you HAVE to see Toni Storm with bangs before she gets past her early-mid-20s hair crisis and realizes what she's done to her hair =D

NXT Takeover I: Blackpool pre-show is on now. The show proper begins in 20 minutes. Tune in, I'd be shocked if it disappoints.
PS. It's normal that instead of cheering that the NXT UK crowd sings through whole matches.

Gargano vs. Ricochet was one of the best matches I’ve ever seen. NXT Takeover has quickly become my favourite series ever.

On the regular show: January’s regular NXT has been generally weaker than last year due to the fact that almost all matches this year have been predictable, sometimes only having 1 or no matches you can’t predict. It seems like a phase though, it was only 2-3 months ago and all the time before where every match was unpredictable (it may have had a “It’s probably going this way” feel, but never a “it’s definitely going this way” sort of thing like most matches this month).

NXT Takeover was one such show where nothing was predictable. You could assign probability, but predictability was not high on any match except Ohno vs Riddle. There have been less predictable Takeovers, but this one was more than adequate. It also gave us a match of the year contender.

I was surprised to see Jake Hager, AKA Jack Swagger, keep his "We The People" gimmick in his pro MMA debut last night. Felt weird. Kinda fun seeing R Truth rapping during his walkout.

Zelina Vega came out AS Vega! =D

Kurt Angle reminds me of Bulldog when he returned in the Attitude era... He’s there, but definitely not the same. Although, it’s a 12 year or so gap rather than a 12 month gap.

I think Owens comes back at Elimination Chamber and screws Lashley out of the IC title. Balor has been one of the most consistent guys on the roster, up there with Bryan.

I have to admit, I got a little misty-eyed at the MLK tribute, even though it was a blatant PR move.

Holy crap! Thunderous chants and applause for Kofi Kingston. He really stole the show.

I wonder if WWE will strike iron while it's hot and put Kofi vs. Bryan in the Wrestlemania Smackdown championship match?

Either way, very emotional show. This is how a good crowd can really help shape a show.
