Good for you man. I've actually done a pretty big evaluation of my buying tendencies too. I need to have higher standards and pick my purchases more wisely. GameStop had a deal last weekend where members got 60% extra trade-in credit. I brought in 40+ games, some of which I had never played, and walked out with $200 and felt a lot better.
And it's not just refusing "AAA" games at launch for $60-$120, depending on the edition and season pass. I only get Zelda games at launch and the odd Team Ico game (read: The Last Guardian). It's also about refusing to buy those same games at $40, $30, and $20. With so many games on the market and with so few hours in the day, it's impractical to purchase dozens of games a year, even at a heavy discount.
Here's an example. Amazon is selling the hardened edition of CoD: Ghosts for PS4 for $15. I seriously thought about buying it and then I thought those 15 dollars and 6 hours could be used on a game with a much higher pedigree.
So I commend you pbroy :D
Stay strong, brother!
