Well, if you say you're going to do an hybrid of 2 products, the objective is to take the strengths of each product, not their weaknesses. An handheld with the price and size of a home console but no additional power would be pretty terrible, wouldn't it?
They're taking a lot of risks here. They need to win back their home console audience without losing their handheld audience. And their main audience right now is the handheld one. They absolutely need the 3DS players to buy the NX. You can't do that with a $400+ console.
(Like I said in another thread, the best way to do it is to do several SKUs, one with the handheld, one with the home console and one with both. The handheld one would be the entry SKU and the best seller by far, and then they can try to convince the handheld owners to buy the added home part. With this solution they could try $200 for the handheld, 250$ for the home console, $400 for both.)
