Much like the Gamecube/XBox in the last generation developers should take risks and produce games which take advantage of the PS3 but they won't. As the game library becomes smaller and more genericm (because of the quantity of ports) it will be dramatically easier to build a game which stands out on the PS3; this should lead to (reasonably) high sales and the generation of a franchise. Publishers will not produce these games (for the most part) because the Risk is far too high for the potential ROI based on most calculations that a publisher will make.

so then why do people say the psp failed but developers are still at risk making games for the psp??

ehh Risk what risk, there are more 3rd party games that sold + 1million on PSP then DS.

@ tetsuya: well nr.1 clear as long as your not delusional you´ll know its the 360

Nr. 2 is werry wague, do you mean by x-mas or next year or when the next-next-generation starts ??? its also linked to who will sell most consoles and three or four years from know it will be hard to tell eventhough some think the war is over I´d rather wait and see till the troops(or games) come home.

Nr.3 is true but with many ifs and buts (hehe I just sayed butts), PS3 games take a long time to make, plus many developers started developing last gen and can´t change just because sales are slow, plus everybody wants to wait till x-mas to release a big game, and other developers see everyone rushing to the best selling system so they chose the big fish in little pond strategy, but in general youre right, everybody sees the bigges userbase as the biggest market and biggest profit, still some developers might take demografics and other issues into considertion we don´t see, I just didn´t want to say no games now means no userbase which leads to less games, eventhough this might be the case a lot of things can change.

looks like my pole got a mile long very fast (sorry but I´m watching beavis and butthead, I just can´t help myself)

They say the PSP failed because it didn't meet Sony's expectations (walkman of the 21st century), but it has been reasonably successful when you don't compare it directly to the Nintendo DS; 20 Million units sold in 2 years isn't that bad, it will likely hit 35 to 40 Million in its lifetime.

At the same time, most third party developers are not taking risks and developing games for the PSP; most of the games on the PSP are ports of PS2 games ...

1. 360 by far (and by far the best games). 2. DS 3. True, to an extent. Developers will ALWAYS publish games on any system that they feel they can make a profit on, regardless of h/w sales. This is why the Xbox and GC managed to have 3rd party games that were exclusive at all. Some h/w makers did buy some people off in the process, but it atleast got a few exclusives. Also, for the whole poor J-sales for the 360: Although the 360 has failed in Japan, it really didn't have anything to live upto. Any developer in Japan knows this. Despite it, however, some J-devs have had great succuess on the 360. Capcom is the major example. Dead Rising and Lost Planet are both million sellers rather easily, and are still selling units each week (albiet not much). Studios like Mistwaker, Namco, and Square Enix need to realize & wake up that the West still wants eastern games, and the 360 is the better console (vs the PS3) to develop for.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

1. Probably DS 2. Hard to say 3. Depends and is a variable.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!
