Much like the Gamecube/XBox in the last generation developers should take risks and produce games which take advantage of the PS3 but they won't. As the game library becomes smaller and more genericm (because of the quantity of ports) it will be dramatically easier to build a game which stands out on the PS3; this should lead to (reasonably) high sales and the generation of a franchise. Publishers will not produce these games (for the most part) because the Risk is far too high for the potential ROI based on most calculations that a publisher will make. |
so then why do people say the psp failed but developers are still at risk making games for the psp?? |
They say the PSP failed because it didn't meet Sony's expectations (walkman of the 21st century), but it has been reasonably successful when you don't compare it directly to the Nintendo DS; 20 Million units sold in 2 years isn't that bad, it will likely hit 35 to 40 Million in its lifetime.
At the same time, most third party developers are not taking risks and developing games for the PSP; most of the games on the PSP are ports of PS2 games ...
