Forums - Gaming - 4K UHD TVs are being adopted faster than HDTVs

I wonder if 4K will repopularise buying movies and TV shows on disc. 4K is a lot of data to stream, and a lot of people still have data caps on their internet plans.

You're confusing 4k TVs with 4k content. The latter isn't taking off as quickly.

Well, considering content is driven by demand and the content can only be played on devices that supports it, content will come as 4k continues to get more and more popular. Considering both Sony and MS (As well as many other companies) are pushing 4k in their respective ways, 4k content will certainly grow faster and faster

Is there demand for 4K content though? My guess is that people are buying 4K TVs because why not? I'm looking at Harvey Norman's website and Samsung only have 1080p TV on sale - the rest are 4K ones. The only 4K content that I foresee growing is games.

4K is gonna be big in a few years.

I remember a time here where alot of people argued with me and said 4k will take ages to arrive. And its totally useless. Usually accompanied with a graph that showed 4k has no benefit with usual viewing distances and by the time usual screen sizes.

That would be a bit silly to spend hard earned money on a 4k TV because why not? They could easily spend that money on something else if they don't care for 4k content. And those who are spending money on a 4k TV surely would want to see 4k Content to see what the upgrade can deliver.

And there are plenty of 4k content that is growing. There are quite a few channels on Youtube that have 4k viewing options, Virtually All Netflix Originals are in 4k and tons of movies that are currently avaliable and are coming out also are coming in 4k. You surely can't expect Content to outpace the devices that are able to play them in terms of growth right? We need the devices to sell and then the content will come for them.

Yes but even if a lot of people are buying 4k by default without 4K  in mind, it still means a lot of potential customers for 4K content later on because they have display capable TV's.

There's barely any 1080p TVs being sold by the big brands anymore and the difference in price in 1080p TVs and 4k is small enough that people would upgrade without having the content to play on it.

4K TVs has been out for years now but content is very slow on the uptake. I'm sure it'll be common in about 5 years' time.

i wish they made 4K tv's smaller than 40 inch xD

my poor room is to small for that in the area where i have my 32 inch tv D:

Yea but why would anyone even buy a 4k tv if they have a perfectly good hdtv and they dont care about 4k?

And yes 4k has been out for a few years but only recently became available at an affordable price for the mass market. Without sacrificing in many places that is. A few years ago, 4k tvs costed over 20k...

I already told you - big brands are only putting out 4K TVs these days. I used this example, if I go out wanting to buy s Samsung TV for example, I'd only see 4K ones on the market.
