Forums - Gaming - Final Fantasy VII Remake Release Date and News Update

Personally I dont mind if they break down the game into 3 parts selling each at full price.

But I think the first disc will be out for holiday 2017 rather than earlier. Giving them time to touch up and longer space between their other games. In 2017 they're already releasing KH2.8 early 2017 and I'll guess FFXII remaster in mid 2017.

Yeah... Lord of the Rings Episode 3 was really something.

-____-

That was originally 3 separate books though. A better comparison would be The Hobbit part 3...

No. It was 6 books. 2 books per tome. ^___-

The Hobbit, is one. single. book. Smaller than half a tome of TLOTR.

"I'd like to create a new kind of value for the hardware that is the PlayStation 4 for our next announcement."

Hmmm... Special edition PS4 incoming.

Regardless of what your definition of book is the point I was making was that like The Hobbit, one book split in to 3 movies, FF7 will now be one game split in to 3 games.

I think your example works.

Well, I haven't really voiced my point.

In gaming term, episodes means the game is divided more like a TV series. where episode is quick to digest, and there are quite a few of them, to get through the entire narrative.

Final Fantasy VII R doesn't take that approach. It takes the approach of a trilogy like TLOTR where every part is meaty.

That is absolute nonsense. What is the difference between episodic and multi-part here? Is it not episodic if it only has 3 episodes? Might want to inform TV series of that.

What TV series are you referring to, that has only 3 episodes?

nah man, it's just to show that FF7R is not episodic as some people fear it would be.

The game is obviously episodic. Its the main game divided in 3 parts. Its not 3 different stories with some connecting threads.

There's a negative connotation with "episodic" gaming these days.  Small bite sized episodes that last 2-5 hours, sold for a few dollars a piece a month or two apart, and are eventually packaged as one. FF7R will (according to what's been communicated to us) be 3 full sized (and priced) games, likely released 1-2 years apart.

But we're just mincing words at this point.  Call it what you want.  Episodes. Parts. Whatever. The end product will be what it will be. But I don't think it will in any way resemble episodic games like those from Telltale and the like.

A lot of BBC shows do that, with the most popular being Sherlock. (Short seasons, not always necessarily 3 episodes, however Sherlock does 3 episodes per season so far, with the exception of the last episode)

I think this is a very interesting part of the interview. Its a hint that SE is planning something very big for the Playstation 4, and after FF7 Remake I wonder what it could be.
